Hello gents!

I wanted to see if I could get suggestions for a balm that could go with a variety of soaps. Here's where I'm at:

I've been having some skin reactions to certain scents/formulas of both soaps and aftershaves. I'm still trying to pin down what it could be definitively. I also struggle with dry skin year round. I've used a few balms but they tend to be a little heavier than I would like, especially in the summer.

I've used Stirling and soap commander. What else can you recommend?

Hopefully I've explained what I'm looking for!

If you don't mind going non-artisanal, Nivea. It's very light (almost a milk).

I second the suggestion of Nivea. I don't like balms all that much. It's the only one I have and use in case my shave ends with some irritation. It does a decent job of soothing it and does not result in a heavy or greasy feeling at all.

Oh, and there's also a lightly mentholated version.

Good suggestions. I will take a look at it, as I have heard many people love Nivea. Any suggestions for something more towards the all (or mostly) natural spectrum? I guess maybe I should have said "lotion" or "balm". Just something moisturizing and skin nourishing!

Have you considered just using an unscented aftershave/toner? Stirling's is quite nice. I actually made my own Zoologist aftershaves with those and they have some pretty decent skin food for the price.

As far as balms go I hear good things about Ginger's Garden. Though I haven't tried it myself.

I have two: Nivea as everyone here mentioned.

Another I really don't want to mention as those aren't easy to get: Jabonman - man that stuff is great.

Jabonman and Sapone di Paolo balms are excellent.
Thayer's original witch hazel is also excellent, although it isn't a balm.

Good luck.

Trumper fragrance-free moisturizing lotion is also quite good.
