Razor: Razorock Lupo .72
Brush: Trotter Handcrafts - “Burnt Butterscotch” w/ 26mm G5C
Soap: Eufros - Sirio
Aftershave: Floid - Black
Blade: Nacet

Another G5C shave. Trying to figure out if I “like” it. It’s a bit of a strange knot… allow me to break this down in a pros & cons list.

G5C Pros:

- Looks awesome. Semi-realistic Badger appearance. Best looking Synth IMO (when dry).
- Super soft tips and hair
- Price is lower than the other G5 knots (but is this really a G5? It’s not really that similar to the other G5’s… marketing move perhaps?)
- Small Glue Bump
- Works great if you smash it into your face while lathering. lol

G5C Cons:

- Black dye came out on the first 2 lathers
- Once wet, the hair fibers sorta stick together and the knot looks and feels small. Like a 24mm knot.
- On the calipers, none of the 4 knots I purchased were 26mm. All 4 were ~25.2mm.
- Too much springy backbone, no real splay… even when set at 53mm. Maybe I should try setting it even higher?

So it’s a mixed bag for me at this point.

Thanks for reading.

Great review Paul... When do you suppose you will re-set the knot? I'd like to know if there is enough free loft to set one at around 57-58mm as that is what I have my 3 TurnNShave knots set at and enjoy them very much. Thanks.

I re-set it today and test again tomorrow. I’ll post my thoughts here tomorrow afternoon.

Well, I went to raise the G5C up to 57mm and it just won’t work… at least not well.

When I bring it up to that height you can easily see the knot base. not much side wall support there either.

I’m not convinced that raising up super high would help much anyways.

If you are testing this knot, I’d recommend trying a loft of 55mm.

What a bummer. I'm sorry the knot reset didn't work out Paul. What's your judgement on whether putting it back to 53mm and breaking it in some more might help?

Hey Mike. Yes, I’ll re-set this guy at 55mm when I get time. I highly doubt it will make a noticeable difference compared to 53mm, but hey, I’ll keep at it.
