Razor: Wolfman WR2 (1.25)
Brush: Trotter Handcrafts - Birch Colorwood
Soap: Tabac
Aftershave: Fine - Green Vetiver
Blade: Astra SP

Had to go with Tabac today since word on the street is the original 1959 formula has been changed to “tallow-free”. I found an online dealer who had a bit of the tallow formula still on the shelf, and I stocked up.

Tabac is the king of soaps in my opinion. Yes, the scent is intense and not for everyone, but it does grow on you the more you use it. Performance is amazing. I’m sad to hear they decided to change a classic, but will remain optimistic that the new formula can hang with the old one.

Razor: WSC Winning Razor
Brush: Trotter Handcrafts - Matte Burnt Butterscotch w/ 26 mm 2BED Synthetic Knot
Soap: Eufros - Sirio
Aftershave: Furbo Blu
Blade: Astra SP

The Winning Razor arrived this evening and I put it through its paces.

First, I got it for $43 shipped. How could I not throw down for a solid, machined stainless razor that’s made in the USA?

It’s a very solid, well machined razor. Lots of weight and it does remind me of the Henson razor in some ways (similar top cap and somewhat similar feel).

I can confirm the reports of the head “drag”, as it does not slide quickly across the face. This really doesn’t bother me that much and actually sorta helps to lock in the right angle take your time. But I can understand how some users won’t like the slower drag experience. If it were polished or if it had some scalloping, it would likely slide much faster across the face. But hey, then it wouldn’t be a $50 razor!

It’s a solid medium aggressive razor and at no point did I feel I could nick or cut myself. In fact, you’d probably almost have to try! It has a very narrow, effective cutting angle and the blade is extremely secure with no chatter.

I found the razor surprisingly efficient. I wasn’t expecting a BBS shave, but I easily achieved it with a standard 4-pass shave.

The magnet on the bottom is a cool feature and will be useful for when a blade is laying flat on the counter making it hard to pick up.

The handle was not slippery at all and the razor felt well balanced. Also, the small holes in the base plate did not clog up at all, even with a thick, gooey lather!

Overall, I feel it’s a must buy at this price point and an outstanding razor.

Can't believe I forgot...

Last night I used the 2BED Synthetic Knot for the first time.

I pulled the 'Matte Burnt Butterscotch' handle outta my Etsy shop and decided to keep it for myself. The color in person looks less "red", and has a certain vibe that was speaking to me. The matte white/gold handle I sold to Tony the other day did the same thing... it was seriously hard to part with that one, but hey.... I can't keep em all!

Anyways back to the knot... I dropped in the new 2BED knot and I gotta say, it looks very cool. Easily my favorite "looking" synth knot. The shape is a fan and at 26mm was the perfect size for me and the handle.

So, how did it perform? Well, first thing I noticed, is this knot feels MUCH more like animal hair than the ultra soft synth knots I'm use to. It honestly reminded me of a boar knot in some ways! There was ample backbone and presence. It brought the scrub and even a little stitch. My my mind was a bit blown.

Any other 2BED "fans"? no pun intended Wink

Ah, a late night shave at Casa de Trotter

Man, the Henson is a wild, and amazing ride. This is the razor every wet shaving newbie should start off with, and every long-time enthusiast needs to own. It just locks right in and works perfectly. Shaves fast and smooth. Sorry “Winning” razor. This one beats you on the performance front (even though it’s aluminum).

Tonight I tried loosening the handle 1/2 turn to make it more aggressive. Yes, it did open the gap, and was more aggressive, but it did lose the magic for me of the ultra secured blade clampage (yes, I just made that word up).

The Fougere Nemeta arrived today and I gotta say the scent is amazing. I get strawberry out front and and green Fougere perfectly mixed in. Wow, this scent reminded me of my local county, where berry fields and ferns are prominent. It’s a wonderful, unique scent and lathers up like a champ. Even Mrs. Stubble Daddy got excited by this one (which rarely happens). Glad I finally tried Southern Witchcrafts.

Thank you and goodnight!

Hey Paul,

I had the exact same thoughts on the two razors. I picked up a Ti Henson Med since they make them about 20min from my house. Besides the amazing shaves it gives, the fact it’s made locally will keep it around forever. The winning razor just doesn’t click as easily as the Henson to me. Both work, but one works better Smile.

I thank you gentlemen for confirming that the Henson is superior to the Winning razor, and saving me $50. I hold the same very high opinion of the Henson, and was only tempted to purchase the Winning because of my excellent experience with the Yates 921. For the record, I enjoy the Yates 921 over the Henson.

Glad you read your thoughts of Henson and Yates. I have been reading so many posts lately, it seems to me. You have prevented me from being this:
