I got my stainless Stirling today in the mail, together with a nice note from Rod. I had planned to wait a few weeks until my birthday to try it, but I suspect I’ll use it for my daily shave tomorrow...

When my wife brought in the package from the porch, she rolled her eyes and again asked me to stop with the shaving stuff. (She recognized the Stirling name on the package.) I told her that it was my birthday gift to myself, that I hadn’t purchased a razor for a couple of years (though I can’t even guess how many aftershaves I’ve bought during that period), and that I want nothing else for my birthday. She then relaxed a bit...

I had my first shave with the stainless Stirling this morning. I jumped right in with the HA base plate.

I think I’ve met my match. The shave is bowling ball smooth, but I paid the price with a couple of weepers. I used to get single weepers once in a while, but never two. They disappeared with cold water and aftershave, but I was humbled nonetheless. Tomorrow I’ll use a shallower angle.

I use highly efficient razors most of the time, including the R41 2011, Ikon Shavecraft Tech, Le Coq cage comb, PAA DOC Evo, Charcoal Goods Level 3, Blackbird, etc. None are as blade-forward as the Stirling HA, at least on my face. I’m impressed.

Before I retired, I had shaving gear shipped to my office. My rather large man bag, which I used to transport my goodies home, holds a lot of gear. Now I have to have gear shipped to my home. As a result, my purchases have slowed dramatically...

Haha, I know that's got to be true.

For those that are still debating should I buy one time is running out. I was recently on the Stirling site and there isn't much left. I believe Rod started out with over 500 razors but sales must have been very brisk. Obviously some will be listed on BST so waiting could be rewarding. Rod has stated he will probably not sell these any longer once they are gone but maybe he will change his mind. I am extremely happy with the HA razor because its a beast but so smooth and beautiful to look at.

We started out with 450, but I ended up sending about 100 back to the manufacturer as the HA plates were sticking. If they are able to fix them, they will go back up once we give them a quick polish. They have sold well though. I have a feeling here in a couple of weeks once they are all gone I'll start getting emails asking when they will be back in stock...

It appears the Stirling SS razors are sold out as they don't appear on the website any longer.

[Image: wccpt9U.jpg]Today was my second time using the HA head. The first was extremely uncomfortable using the Gillette Platinum supplied by Stirling. The 7 O'Clock yellow provided a much more comfortable shave. This razor is as high efficiency/high aggressive as I am able to go short of using a straight razor. The Stirling HA head is aggressive in its design, blade gap, weight, and performance.  As for efficiency, only two passes required this morning. I know Rod designed this to be a one-pass razor, but with the extremely light touch this razor requires, I needed two to get DFS. Left more weepers than I like to see, and felt a fair amount of sting post-shave.
