G'day IBC or Feather AC DX or SS shavette lovers,

I don't know where to post this topic? because I'm still having problems shaving WTG & XTG under my nose with an IBC and Feather AC SS shavette because I keep getting nicked no matter how cautious I am, what is your secret to overcome this issue and I cannot find the latest youtube to get more details on the angle shaving with a shavette.  Keep in mind this is a very frustrating shaving under nose with a bloody shavette and it's extremely tense not easy to relax.

Also I forgot how do you shave XTG on the neck holding the shavette from the ear to the adam apple, I have no issue going WTG and ATG because their are some tinny stubble left over on my neck and the only way I can finish it is go XTG.

Let me start with this caveat:

I don;t shave my face...only my head...and I have never used a Feather AC, but have used other shavettes.

These are my impressions:

Presumably, WTG under the nose would be a stroke that goes from just under the nose, downwards to the upper lip. This is going to create issues due to the necessary angle you would be required to hold the razor at in order to get right up under the nose.  My suggestion would be to focus less on the direction of the stroke, and more on getting complete strokes. I shave around my mustache, and often find myself approaching at weird angles in order to get the blade under the nose and tight against the stache itself. On YouTube, I have watched guys shave under the nose, and I notice that the majority use a sideways stroke, rather than a true north-south stroke. Presumably this is because of the difficult angles that would be required to go north/south under the nose.  My suggestion: try coming in from the side and going across the grain, instead of coming in under the nose and trying to move north to south with the stroke.

XTG on the neck:

Again, the problems you are having are, presumably, related to the angle of approach, specifically because of the size of the shavette vs. the area you are trying to shave.  In my humble opinion, caleb31 has the best technique I have ever seen on YouTube.  His control over both the stretching of his skin, and using the right angles with his razors, be they traditional straight or shavette, are simply impeccable.  If you have not had the pleasure of watching him use a straight, I strongly recommend just watching his videos.

Not only is his technique in the videos impeccable, his advice on the forums is always on point. I've tagged him here, so hopefully he will see it and chime in with his impressions and advice.

The most important piece of advice I can offer is this:

Don;t give up. You'll get it, and when you do it will be worth the effort.

Thanks BadDad I really appreciate your help and looking through the youtube for further help on my issue as possible.

PS. I'm not going to give up on my shavette no matter how long it takes.

I am very very new to straight shaving, in fact I was able to turn my razor into a butter knife with just a strop and simple finishing stone. But I do know that the XTG on the upper lip was known as the fools pass. Reason being that if the blade catches, then slips you will never wear a nose ring again.

What anyone else does, WTG XTG EDD, , don't matter. Find what works for you, keep the area wet and never go over a spot that don't have lather on it and you will find what works.
A great shave to watch would be Mastro Livi ( blade maker ) getting a shave from his master barber, it is an outstanding video to watch if you want to see a man who really knows what to do with a straight blade. It is #4 in his utube video series on straight razors..

SpeedyPC question on the IBC razor. I had never heard of them so I checked their site out. That's a nice looking shavette, the description says it takes half DE blades or cartridge type blades. Can the head handle AC blades or just injector blades?
