Today found me playing catchup on several chores that turned into a major inventory and maintenance of the material extension of me. My shoes sit drying with edge dressing and new laces ready to use and my german mountain yeager rucksack washed out removing melted chocolate and at least a kilo of dirt and air drying on the patio. I thought I was diligent caring for my shave kit. Wrong! I'm out of mineral oil for my Mergress, who left the cap off the Penhaligons and why is everything covered in a layer of old soap? I also found a few half forgotten items like a 100 pack of Ladas and an unopened alum block. A few items were boxed for PIF or sale. Everything is now 'Shipshape and Bristol fashion' and I had fun.
Now, if I can just clean the microwave without resorting to hammer and chisel.

I know the feeling. Nowadays I’m pretty much a minimalist when it comes to material things but I’ve still got a bunch of shave stuff I need to get gone. I’ve been going through it slowly the last couple of weeks and am amazed at what I had stashed away “just to have” and for the shave apocalypse. I’ve got duplicates and triples of razors that I’ll never use. Time to get rid of them.

It seems like we spend the first half of our lives collecting things and the second half getting rid of them.

Yes, it has been in phases with me. I would look around and say "What do I need all this stuff for?" and do a clean sweep. Everything would be good for a year or so and then I get the "Have to Haves" and start accumulating again. On and on. However at this point I think I can keep things down to the bare minimum.  (I think)

Only a military man would even know what edge dressing is and why its important. Big Grin

And only a military man that started at the lowest rank knows the shear PIA it is to clean edge dressing off a white tile floor.

I am by NO DEFINITION one of these forum posters that advocates some minimalist, SIMPLICITY MOVEMENT, monastic shaving kit sitting next to 10 pounds of oatmeal for breakfast everyday. I have reduced my dragon hoard but not my materialism. This is a negative word for some and wrongfully so. I love well made items; silk ties, leather shoes oriental rugs and glicee prints of Gaugain. I want to smell nice with Penhaligons, drink Chateau Neuf du Pape ( when I can afford a bottle) and revel in a glorious sunset while everyone is down at the local artificial lake with the monthly fireworks show.
Shaving merchants have no fear or antagonist in me. I WANT multiple pucks of MWF to fall out of my closet hitting my head, more glass cologne bottles than a chandeliered opera house and am always open to that next product that may be 'it.'
What I really need is a valet.
