Traveling with a Mastro Livi Grifetto Mother of Pearl

Every time I travel and I take with me one of my three Mastro Livi Grifetto razors, I always end up thinking Grifetto is a great solution for traveling. Not to mention Mastro Livi loom strop which perfectly fits to my luggage. Grifetto has a super sharp and long lasting edge, you simply need to strop it with your hand palm and the razor is ready to give you a luxurious shave. I am very happy to own three of them and this time I took with me the one with mother of pearl scales, so beautiful to look at. Another good performing shave tool is Omega Professional 48 shave brush, in my opinion one of the very best bristle shave brush around. As for the soap, the super classic Tcheon Fung Sing "Barbe Rosse" proves to be a very good, yet very cheap, shaving soap providing a super luxurious lather and excellent glide to the razor. The finishing touch has been given by Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla aftershave, although I do not like its fragrance that much, it however is a very good aftershave and you can tell it has more alcohol than most of the other aftershave lotions.

  • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
  • Soap: Tcheon Fung Sing Barbe Rosse
  • Brush: Omega Professional 48
  • Bowl: Chinese Stainless Steel Bowl
  • Strop: Mastro Livi Travel Loom Strop and Hand Palm
  • Razor: Mastro Livi Grifetto Mother of Pearl, 6/8 Full Hollow, Round Point
  • Post-Shave: Alum Block
  • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
  • After Shave: Pinaud Clubman Classic Vanilla

Through The Fire Fine Craft offers moderate slickness and cushion, but very little post-shave. As a result, I don't use it if I had a previous poor shave resulting in skin issues going in. Fortunately, I've been having some amazing shaves lately given the great products available. "Devil's Cut" is a nice bourbon-forward fragrance highlighted with sandalwood and cinnamon notes. Cinnamon is not listed as an ingredient, nor do I get the typical warm sensation with cinnamon products. However, the note is unmistakable. While this is supposed to be influenced by Jim Beam's Devil's Cut Whiskey, I believe it's closer to their Kentucky Fire whiskey. I often compare the Devil's Cut splash to Derby City Chop Shop's Winter Reserve. The two are very similar in the sense that they both contain bourbon. Devil's Cut is a bit lighter and more woodsy where Derby City has more of a bay rum profile. The Devil's Cut bourbon notes fade after an hour or two and leave a pleasant cinnamon sandalwood.

Nice write up. I agree with your assessment of Devil's Cut. It's a cold weather scent for me.

Trying some new things
My wife bought me some new things to try: Body Shop Maca Root cream and this "Smoothie" from Lush. I got a decent shave, but these won't replace my regular software. I'll use the smoothie as a hand cream - it does leave my skin soft.
