By the way, how are you liking the Muhle Silvertip Fibre? I'm getting more serious about picking up a synthetic, and have so far narrowed it down to two options: Either a Plisson or the Muhle Silvertip Fibre, both with a nice handle (the default plastic isn't that appealing to me - I really like the exact model you have of the Muhle).
So strange: a whole group of people I know said they had trouble sleeping last night. Baffling, and odd.
The Mühle is my second brush with their Silvertip Fibre (both v2); the first one I got is the Edwin Jagger XL synthetic. I like the feel of the fibers themselves: very soft, but not floppy the way the Plisson-type knot can feel (depending on the loft it's set at). For me, the EJ XL is a bit too big, as synth knots need to be pressed in a bit more to splay usefully. That XL tends to fling lather around and make a bit of a mess. The olive wood 23mm Mühle is better behaved, but the smaller knot means I need to use a bit more pressure to get splay from it. It certainly has some backbone, but is soft. I like it, but I'm not sure I love it yet. The handle does look great. It's also smaller in person than I expected.
I should say that my favorite synthetic right now is my Maggard 24mm, which uses the Plisson-style knot but at a larger diameter and slightly lower loft than a Plisson, so they overcome much of the Plisson's floppiness. It's a great brush. It was also only $12! Not a bad way to see if you like the Plisson style.
