I got the R2 a couple of months back and I'm finding it uncomfortable - I can get the BBS and being careful can avoid the bloodshed but it just feels harsh. Might sell it.
Cheers,
Mark

My first ATT was the R1 and immediately clicked with me. Superbly smooth but with a touch of bite; just the right level of aggression for me. Previous to this I'd found my EJ DE89 to be too mild.
Next I purchased the open-comb R2 (because why not, the R1 was so good). It's a very different beast. I think the sharpness of the metal cut of the teeth themselves can make it feel more aggressive than it is. I'd say the R2 is slightly more aggressive than the R1 but with care the two razors can deliver the same results. The R2 certainly takes more practice.
I would definitely recommend the R1; easy to use straight off the bat and worth the investment. I would also recommend you keep hold of the R2 and come back to it later, you might find it works for you then.
I also find that getting the blade aligned correctly in ATT can be tricky due to the small holding pins. Double-check your blade after loading.
Also try a Rapira Lux blade in your ATT - perfect pairing for me. You might find a blade like Gillette Green will be smoother in your R2.
