Today's razor is a Tatara Masamune OC plate and handle mated with the Nodachi cap.  The specs for this combination are a 0.73mm gap and 0.05mm exposure.  These specs reminded me of the Karve Overlander, a solid bar which has slightly greater exposure, and about which there has been a great deal of happy buzz.  Now, my thinking brain understands that connecting razors by their specs is a connection made with thin thread, but even so, I was curious.  I already owned the Nodachi - a top DE favorite of mine - and I have long wanted to try it with the Masamune handle, so I recently splurged and got the Masamune handle and OC plate as well. 

Today's shave, a maiden voyage with the hybrid, was for the most part along the lines I expected.  It was not mindless, and yours truly got a weeper to prove it, although it was a weeper that dried up on its own.  That aside, the angle was easy to find, the shave was very smooth, and the efficiency was very surprisingly good.  The end result was a glass smooth BBS with nothing bleeding by rinse-off time.  So now I am really curious to see what kind of story a few more shaves will tell.

Wow. I had to check, because I thought the Overlander had a neutral exposure. It's actually 0.07. I'm stunned. It is an absolute smooth shave and most folks would call it a 'safe, mindless shave'.

Glad your first run with this hybrid was pretty good. I'm sure when you and the razor get more familiar with one another, it'll get even better.

To be honest, these are some of the most difficult shaves for me trying to perform a satisfactory finish with only 24 hours rest on my skin. There is enough stubble to shave off that I can see and feel but my skin ain't so tough. The original base plate from Carbon has the most blade exposure and these offer a good cut on the beard. It can be a bit much on my skin but I try to watch the pressure. I'm getting better at daily shaving but for me, shaving off more than 3 days beard growth (all the way up to a week or more beard) is easier than a daily shave. I try to limit the daily shaves to 2 passes. Not sure how many others find their skin really prefers a couple of days in between shaves to rest after dfs/bbs shave finishes.
