Gillette English Red Tip

Ouomo 26 mm badger

Well so much for staying with the H&S N075 for a spell. Yesterday I unpacked a new to me English Red Tip and I felt a moral imperative to experience, for my very first time, in my 62nd year, the iconic Gillette “Twist-to-Open” razor design. Golly, it sure was fast and easy to load the blade! The razor shaved beautifully, feeling relatively mild (compared to some of my more modern razors) and smooth, but had some blade feel and, after 2.5 passes, resulted in a great DFS shave. I felt like I had joined the ranks of some grand subset of male human beings who have tamed their whiskers with this special type of razor. I used the Palmolive because that’s what my Dad used, so it seemed fitting.
I mixed the soap thin to make sure the razor got through to the whiskers, and it worked great. The Oumo badger was a $45 buy off the BST, and is a great brush. It sports a great and dense knot, with soft tips and a splendid bit ‘o backbone. Softer than the SV, and less floppy than a High Mt. White. So today’s shave, all in all, was a small step for me, but still, represented my entry into an legendary club...
Happy Shaves!

SOTD FRIDAY MORNING, MARCH 5, 2021
Today is the day before our return to Tennessee to finish closing up my father-in-law’s house and to receive our final Moderna jab. For today’s shave I selected my British Gillette Gold Rocket and my Puma 88 5/8. The Puma delivered a fine, three pass mug shave, and the Rocket loaded with my preferred Feather DE, a decently close two pass ATG dome shave. I feel clean, refreshed, and acceptably smooth.
RAZOR: Puma 88 5/8 (Mug), British Gillette Gold Rocket (Dome)
BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE Monster Tuxedo Synth
CREAM: Castle Forbes Lime
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH.
