A number of other straight shavers on the oldest online straight shaving forum, SRP, believe MWF conditions the skin to resist weeps during the shaving process, attributing it to the healthy amount of lanolin in the product. I don't know whether it’s just hearsay, but I do know that when I’ve been using the product regularly, weeps, if they occur, tend to disappear. Does MWF somehow enhance clotting? I don’t know, but I do know that when used regularly, and followed with alum bar application that there is always little, if any, heat post shave.
For today’s mug shave I selected my NOS Witte Copperhead 6/8. When I received the razor, there was a cryptic note in the enclosing coffin box, “Honed by Henerey 1939”. There was a bevel established, as to whether it was attributable to long dead Henerey’s work, who knows? It did shave hair, but examination under my USB microscope revealed it could use some finishing. My jasper stone with a series of successively diluted slurries on the rough side worked it’s magic. Final finish was on the UF side under water until the blade was sticking. The smooth, buttery edge on this razor has held up and been maintained with pasted linen followed by leather stropping.
For my dome shave I selected my Blackland Tradere safety razor. My Omega Pro48 boar brush is just a terrific lather building tool. It’s well broken in and has that perfect combination of softness and backbone that makes this wet shaving hobby of ours so pleasurable! Three slow, MWF-lather-rich, mug passes (WTG, ATG, XTG) coupled with two dome passes (ATG, ATG) put the baby to bed. I always immediately follow my MWF shaves with a cold water wash with the brush squeezings which I leave on my shave surfaces while cleaning up. Today’s shave finished with Humphreys Lilac WH and Fine Accoutrements Snake Bite AS splash. I feel refreshed, cool, clean and very smoothly velveteen!

National Male Day
Rooney Stubby 1 Butterscotch Boar (22/48)
Crabtree & Evelyn Sweet Almond Oil shaving cream (vintage)
LASSC BBS-1
Gillette Super Stainless 'Spoiler' (3)
RazoRock Sweet Almond aftershave balm
This was my first use of a boar brush. (I'm not counting the really small wood-handled Rooney from WWII that I had in the past.) It had a slight funk when I got it, so I soaked it in really hot water for 5 minutes, then palm-lathered it a couple times. For the shave it had just a bit of prickliness and surprisingly little backbone; not quite floppy, but not as firm as my badgers. It lathered the cream quite well, although slower than badgers do. The cream was as wonderful as always, and it is always just a little exciting to open a new jar. I wish C&E had made a matching sweet almond aftershave. But the RazoRock balm is very soothing, and a little goes a long way.

SOTD Monday 10.26.20
Pre: Hot Water Splash
Soap: Czech & Speake Oxford & Cambridge (in a Tabac jar)
Brush: Elite Razor Irish Bog Oak w/a massive 24 mm knot
Bowl: CC Ceramic
Razor: SS Wolfman WR2 1.05 SB w/WRH1 solid handle, and WRA2 stand
Blade: Wizamet SI (5)
Post: Nivea post shave cooling balm
24 hours of stubble; Three passes
Result: BBS. The WR2 1.05 shaves closer than the Timeless 68, but feels every bit as smooth. It’s now three days in a row with this specific setup and I am getting no irritation. BBS in three like the .68, but the shave from the 1.05 definitely lasts a little longer. A great daily driver. The Czech & Speak is a nice slick soap with good cushion and a wonderful mild scent. Kinda old school, like the Tabac. While shaking the brush dry the knot came loose. Oh boy, that’s not good! I’m going to have to fix that right away because this is a brush I do not want to do without. The 24mm fan punches way above its weight and the Bog Oak handle is nice and grippy, and it’s very light.
Happy Shaves to All.
P.S., Thanks Yminoh for the fantastic stand!
Note on the Photo: The countertop is soapstone. The color shift is due to the under-cabinet LEDs on the left (see reflections in razor cap) and the diffuse natural light from the window on the right (a cloudy and overcast October afternoon). I increased the color saturation a bit and shifted the overall tint toward violet. A “happy accident” that gives the shot an unusual accent.
