The steel blade is harder than my vintage English Sheffield blades. Sharpening takes more grinding and polishing but the blade holds an edge well.

I used a compound microscope at low power, 25x, to inspect the edge. The problem was that the stones were not reaching the edge along the whole length of the blade. Aha, a common problem. So, rubbarubbarubba with the #5000 grit Chosera synthetic until the entire edge was sharp. It took more grinding than I imagined. Twenty laps, inspect, another twenty, to about sixty to complete the bevel. The aluminum oxide abrasive in the Chosera is harder than silica, and still took a lot of grinding.

The 6x1 inch stones, made for the Edge Pro sharpening system, are useful for reaching all points along the edge. I have made a slight camber on the stones so that the edge of the stones does not gouge the edge of the blade. The pattern of the swarf shows on the stone surfaces.

After grinding a sharp edge, I removed the burr (visible in the microscope) by running the edge gently along the stone at a slightly higher angle than the bevel, making the razor unusable for shaving but leaving a clean, nearly sharp edge.

I polished the edge with the finer grit stones, Gokumyo 10, 15, 20 k grits, followed by stropping it on leather, ten laps first, another ten, and another ten improved the edge to perfection.

At last, it shaves without making me cry.
