Same supporting cast but with a new (to me) headliner this morning, the brass ‘bird (Thanks “NoScrubs”).  Every time I come back to the Blackbird I’m amazed at what a fantastic shave it can provide.  This brass version is wonderful.  I think the extra weight actually helped me modulate the razor a little more effectively.  I also got a good appreciation for the “let the razor weight do the work” guideline this morning.  On shave “5” the Wiz was in its element.  Not necessarily as smooth as the “Red,” but very sharp and effective.  Each pass was different in its own way.  Pass one, thicker lather, WTG, neutral angle & let the razor set the pressure; short strokes; covered ground once only; did not try to get everything in one pass.  Pass two, ATG, thinner lather, rode the cap just slightly beyond where it began cutting; maintained little pressure and kept strict angle control through even the short strikes; used short fast strokes.  Pass three, thinner lather; XTG/cleanup; longer slower passes on cheeks; short light & slow touch ups on the neck/adam’s apple; focused on not fouling up what I’d already accomplished.  (I also realized once again how great the MdC soap is, and how subjective the sense of smell can be.  After a good night’s rest, the MdC Agrumes smelled fresh and clean and worked like a charm).  Once again, after the last pass, I fully lathered my face and let it dry completely while I cleaned up the gear, working the lather into my face and neck as it dried.  That left a nice protective post-shave layer.  Finished with the Venture, which had more sting than I expected given that there were no nicks or weepers.  One heck of a great shave!
