When the lovely ML and I attended the Commonwealth Pen Show she was smitten with the 30 milliliter Mont Blanc ink bottle. Unfortunately Mont Blanc reserves the 30 ml bottle for limited additions. Their standard bottle is the 60 ml with the built in inkwell.

As regular readers know ML prefers blue inks. No current blue inks in the 30 ml bottles. She did an internet search and found that Mont Blanc made a blue ink in that bottle for BMW. She ordered a bottle from BMW's German corporate site.  I teased her that she paid twice the price to get half as much ink than if she purchased the 60 ml standard bottle Smile

The package came from Germany and was addressed to FRAU ML. The bottle is classy looking.

She also ordered Chesterfield Zircon - one of her favorite inks.

ML likes both of the inks. These are here written notes.

On to the pen. We were antiquing up north and came upon a Parker 51. It had a corroded tip or so it felt. I had a hunch it might be ancient crusted ink. I purchased the pen for less than the price of 2 fast food meals. I figured if I could not fix it I would not be out a lot of money.

It came with an original cardboard box. The box is actually numbered. You can find interesting stuff on the web.

The pen is friction fit to cap and post. It has a hooded nib.

It even came with the directions leaflet.

I spent 3 days cleaning it. Mostly soaking. First in water, then in a water plus rubbing alcohol and dish soap solution followed by more water.
A toothbrush removed caked on crud at the nib. The sac was harder to clean and lead to the 3 days of soaking. When all was said and done it writes!!
Nicely at that.

The filling mechanism is called the Aerometric. The ink reservoir is a clear PVC sac. You immerse the tip in ink and press 4 times (per instrunctions stamped on the pen). It holds a good amount. I believe the pen is from 1953. It writes great for 63 year old pen.

Phil, tell Mary Lou that I love the Mont Blanc ink bottle. Honestly, some ink bottles today are as beautiful as Eau de Toilette bottles.

At that price, your Parker 51 is an incredible find! Use it in the best of health.
