Soapy Bathman

I agree as the starter of this thread soapy bathman is rarely mentioned and it's an incredible soap..... I hope the "major" Wet shaving sites not carrying it doesn't mean its demise.  It's an incredible performer.

I just pulled the trigger on the Irish Waterfall from PAA a couple of days ago.  I'm on a GIT kick and will have 5 different vendor's takes when this arrives.  The only ones I'm really missing are outside of my preferred price range.  I'll share my thoughts when this one arrives.

I think he will be fine but you never know. His bath soap and cosmetics line has been around for years before Soapy Bathman which he started in 2012. Even SB has been around longer than most of the artisans though. I wish him well and will never understand why he doesn't get more love. I have even seen threads on another board asking if there are any artisans in Canada. Then people chime in and say First Canadian, but First Canadian is new from what I understand. So maybe a lot of people just don't know about it. One other thing I've noticed is the youtube reviewers almost never use SB. I think TSE did one review and gave it good remarks but nothing special. That's kind of sad really, they will review everything under the sun and yet here is SB with a ton of scents to choose from at a price that can compete with anyone, and nobody reviews them.

I actually used his Black Magic scent for my shave this morning.

I love the smell and because it's so unique, hard to describe but it's awesome.

I might get his laundry scent that is suppose to be a dead ringer for Gain laundry detergent.

The performance of his soap is top notch.

You need to try the real GIT if you haven't already. I have the balm from Creed and it smells amazing. I didn't realize Soapy Bathman's Irish Waterfall was a take on that. Now you have me interested in that one. I was thinking of Amaretto on the Rocks.

I wish it was in my price range. I just can't justify paying more than $3 per ounce on soap. Especially when there are so many good ones out there to try that are in my price range. I passed on both Mystic Waters and Queen Charlotte versions because of that.

I know what you mean and I used to do the same. B&M and Tim's are a little higher than that and I feel they are worth it for some of the scents. However, with Catie's Bubbles, Soap Commander, and Soapy Bathman at $2.50 per ounce, Stirling at around $2.00 per ounce, Reef Point at $3.00 per oz, and B&M Latha at $2.75 per oz it is hard to imagine needing to spend anymore.

I think part of the perceived lack of interest in Soapy Bathman has to do with the branding. To be honest, I've never used SB before, but I don't like the name or the logo. The label designs are lackluster at best. I know this has nothing to do with the actual product, but it does give potential buyers a perception of quality and to me, the packaging looks "amateurish" I guess. I hate to sound too critical, but those are just my observations. Another example of this for me would be Nanny's Silly Soap or whatever it's called. Just the name deters me from wanting to try it.

Another reason might be the 8 oz. tub. Even though it's a great value, I prefer the smaller 4 oz. containers. Based on the stellar reviews here though, I might give SB a whirl. Do they have good strong scents?

I just used Soapy Bathman again this morning to confirm.

Yes, the scent is pretty strong during the shave and last for a decent amount of time post shave.

I've tried a couple of the Soapy Bathman soaps and I think they're just ok but I have so many other soaps that are better that I find it hard to justify using them. I feel the same way about the Tiki soaps - they're decent enough but again, I have so many that are better.

Life is too short for bad shaves.

Marketing is a good point. Did I pause when I heard the term Soapy Bathman? Possibly. Did I do that with Caties Bubbles? Possibly, but in the end I did pull the trigger and bought both (actually several of both). The more you move away from traditional "manly" names the steeper the climb. This is not always the case but it can occur. That's when the shaving community pitches in and spreads the word much like this tread. But to be clear I didn't pull the trigger on Soap Commander and Reefpoint soaps until after I read a tonne of reviews so "manly" or not I wasn't interesting in buying another dud soap.

As it relates to price, everyone has a comfort level related to oz per Dollars= value. I have a range that is effected by the consistency of the soap. Creams for $20 dollars or more have a lot a ground to make up if they want my dollar. Soapy with the consistency of lead and lathers like it does, with the scents available might actually be priced lower than some of the champs already named in this thread.

I own no stakes in the company, and have never met the people who made my soaps (cigar and black magic), but anyone considering picking up a jar will not be disappointed. Just my humblest of opinions.

The scent is strong on the one I bought and I've heard it's strong on others too. I know what you mean about branding, and LASSC is one I have't bought as a result. I don't like that they charge higher prices per ounce than many other great soaps, and yet put no creativity into their labels and containers. I'm sure it's a good soap, but considering its another non-tallow soap with very basic and minimal ingredients that gap is already filled with Catie's. As for SB, it was the first shave soap I bought and when searching Maggard it stood out to me. I kind of like the labels. However, one thing I didn't like either was having to buy 8oz. On SB's website though they sell 4oz in some of the scents which I may try if shipping isn't too high from Canada.

I'm not sure what shipping costs down to the States from Canada, but if you buy directly from SB then you're paying Canadian. Considering 1USD = 1.44CAD right now, you'd probably get a pretty good deal. I've had a SB soap and while the post-shave is very good, I wasn't really wowed with the actual lather itself. No real problems with it, it just didn't blow me out of the water.
