Are you equating continuing to try a particular maker that one has had issues with until there's a Eureka moment with shaving evolution/progress? Help me out.

Ok, that sounds more like assisting said maker with development and that's totally fine. Most regular shavers would not be willing to do that if they have to shell out their own $$$'s to do that.
