Which soaps do you feel are over rated.

And possibly too expensive....

What is a good price range for soap buys?

I personally feel anything over $30 a soap is just not worth it.

This won't age well.

This hobby spirals into fanboy territorial pissings as soon as a soap artisan is named.

I'd love to contribute but no time with the back and forth that will undoubtedly occur.

As far as dollars goes it's up to the consumer. A tub can last 6 months to a year with heavy use and triple milled even longer.

Me personally, I don't freeze at any amount as long as I feel it's worth it. My artisan of choice runs $25-$30 a tub. I'm ok with that because I feel I get a great shave and enjoy that particular scent.

I've seen allot of guys moan about paying $15 for a tub. I'm certain there are fine soaps at that amount or lower that can shave great as well. But for what a sandwich, fries and 2 beers cost for a lunch I'll buy my $30 tub any day of week.

Haha, I’d rather buy a new soap than a burger and fries.

I have soaps from many different companies/artisans and love almost all of them. But I do feel some are priced way too high and the performance isn’t anything to rave about.

I think Arian and evans are well priced for performance and post shave feel. Great brand as well.

Can't go just by a set tub price as tubs vary in size too...............3 oz up to nearly 8 ounces.....

I think alot of European soaps are way too highly priced for their ancient recipes and poor quality soaps. Sebum is insanely priced. While I love Wholy Kaw I do wish their prices were a tad lower but I understand as their quality is top notch. The biggest over pricing is Art of Shaving. I have used a few soaps and they are garbage compared to other artisans that are half that price. This is true for alot of commercial companies sold at Alta and other department stores and high end locations.

A good price range is....whatever you're willing to pay for a product that works for YOU.

If a $5 soap works for you, great...but if not, find something that does and go with it. At least that's what I do!

Price per ounce might be a better indicator on price. Most soaps are $5-7/ounce.

I think Andrew nailed it.  I have superb soaps in several price ranges and would replace (and have replaced) tubs I have used up.  Unless the price of a particular favorite skyrocketed ridiculously or there was a reformulation that I did not care for then price would be the least of the variables for me.

Quite honestly...the incremental price per shave between lower priced and higher priced brands is literally a dime or quarter or so per day...or the price of a few beers at a bar. It’s not going to break me. Personally, price isn’t a factor. I get the soaps that I feel work best for me. If it costs more so be it...That said, I’m not a hoarder with many, many soaps gathering dust. I have maybe 8 to 10 max that I really enjoy in rotation. If I buy one that doesn’t work for me I move it on BST.. Right now after trying a ton of soaps and creams I feel the more “expensive” brands work best for me in terms of how they perform on slickness, protection, cushioning and post shave. Cheaper ones...for my face...are like shaving with the blunt end of an axe. I fully admit I’ve been totally spoiled during the last couple of years by the influx of incredible artisan soaps which have totally changed the soap playing field. Life’s too short to settle for a crappy shave to save a few bucks...YMMV...
