Why all the drama? Soap Operas? (OK a Pun)

Mods if inappropriate to discuss, just delete the thread

I like the rules here and there are common sense: No religion, politics, or weapons. Family friendly (watch your mouth (or fingers)), no ad hominem attacks, and use common sense. We are all human. Have respect.  OK, serious question now.

Why are arguments from other forums dragged into here? I don’t care one wit about the names of other places nor the dramas. The Soap Operas in this hobby are just strange.  What is the point of dragging crap and drama and explaining long stories from elsewhere here?  Pardon me for using “crap”, so I’m not a gentleman. Its not 1890 either.

What is the point of attacking vendors who you KNOW read this stuff? Is this a contest? Do you win something? Where is the respect for the people who allow this place to exist?

What is the point of discussing rules elsewhere? Why do you care? This is here. That is there. That was then.  This is now.  Get over it.

I know there are some people who post the exact same post in multiple forums. They are easy to see, just look at the Sharpologist discussion feed.  Not sure why anyone would do that but OK. But why drag DRAMA from one place to another?

IMO, leave your bags as the door. I get it. We are all mad at someplace else.   Angry But it’s the end of the year, a new  year is about to start. For better or worse, everything will start fresh in January.   Smile

For a New Years resolution, how about leaving your baggage at the door?  Exclamation

Wouldn’t that be nice for all of us?  Smile

As far as I'm concerned, there is no logical reason to transfer drama from one location to the other. Many of us have had issues on other forums, and all of those issues seem to be very similar in nature.

While I admit to being a bit of a "rubber-necker" when the drama rears it's ugly head, I can't help but feel like such pettiness brings the entire forum down.

I've seen a few people respectfully ask to have a venting section, where it is allowable to vent frustrations over other forums, but to me, that is very counter-productive. If you are here, at DFS, be here. Let the other forums go about their business, and leave the drama there. Rehashing it ad nauseum here, on this forum, does nothing to change the other forums, and does nothing to alleviate any negativity an individual might be feeling.

The only thing it accomplishes is to hang a negative pallor over this forum, and that is really unnecessary in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind seeing one more rule added to our list of four: #5-Leave your drama at the door. Come to DFS to participate at DFS, not to vent frustrations over other forums.

As much as I dislike the idea of censoring what topics and discussions are and are not allowed, to me, eliminating these threads and posts will help to preserve the positivity and elevate the character of this forum, just as deleting curse words, flaming attacks, and argumentative diatribes does.

Just my humble opinion...

First and foremost---Fundamental Attribution Theory---this explains most of the unexplainable behavior.

Next is trying to apply another forum's rules to DFS. It makes me dry heave. Just because Phil doesnt allow XXX on his website means we should self sensor or moderate here---just like over there, or someone should be banned, 'cause that,s how it would happen over there ad nauseam.

Another repulsive thing I see pop up from users here, applying standards from another site is the term "Gentlemanly". That word does not exist in any DFS rule, sub rule, or by-law, yet I see an occasional member use it, when in fact they are applying the favorite word from another site to this. And it tastes like bile. Because that site actually employs the exact opposite of "Gentlemanly", yet demands it (or its mutilated cousin) from its members, then it becomes bastardized, then loses its meaning. Mostly because they dont operate in the same manner as expected of its own members.

I agree with the points made above. Typically from what I've seen its members from other forums that don't normally participate here are the ones who stir up the drama here (i.e. the Barrister and Mann thread from a couple days ago). Yes, some DFS members have complained about other forums on occasion. I think most of us would prefer if they just "left it at the door". I'm glad I don't have to worry about the other forums drama though. This is the only one I've ever been a part of for good reason.

I can't really understand why people come here or really anywhere to complain about a different forum. I also don't understand the drama that frequently occurs with vendors.

If I don't care for the atmosphere or members of a forum, I stop visiting.

If I don't care for how a vendor operates, I vote with my dollars.

There is no sense in trying to convince others to see things your way. All you can do is give them the same information you have.

I don't know, a lot of the "drama" I've seen here, on reddit, and reading a few shaving blogs really boggle my mind. At the end of the day I enjoy participating on reddit, and this place seems nice as well.

They come here to further the forum they just came from, or to continue an argument with a member from a different forum that resides here. DFS has allowed more access than any other site to vendors. DFS does not use extortion techniques to shake down vendors for more $$ for the joy of residing and posting here. That said, others come here to interact with vendors they cant on their other favorite site. This also invites them to attempt to troll our vendors here given they dont have that opportunity elsewhere, then piss and cry when a member is not moderated, censored, or banned as if this site operated under the rules of the site they came from.

I dont like how WalMart operates. I dont shop there. I am not the guy who goes to WalMart and walks up and down the aisles telling people how if they were in Target, things would be sooo much different.

So in a way I agree also as I dont spend my money at vendors I dislike. But I dont make a big to-do over it.

Right, so just don't spend it, whining about it is pointless.

OK, so here's a suggestion. Of course people do what they want but in good faith ...

LEAVE YOUR BAGGAGE AT THE DOOR.

Other than yourself, chances are no one else, who probably know nothing about your previous dramas, cares one wit about what happened "over there"

There is no need for long explanations and complaining about other forums. Just move on.  You don't "win" anything. There is no prize. Let that door close and be embraced in a new door, and new possibilities.

And remember, there is no such thing as "freedom of speech" on private property. Some people do not understand the First Amendment and think that they can say whatever they want everyone. Wrong. The first amendment applies to the government suppression of speech of the public. It has NO bearing on private property. We need to all remember that at is a fundamental tenet behind forum rules.
