Simpson Chubby 2

I just sprung for a Chubby 2. It came with directions that lead me to believe you needed to handle it by just swirling the tips and not mashing it down like I would a boar of some of my other badgers. Do people who own the Chubby 2 have any advice on how to use this brush. Its a lot of money and I don't want to ruin it.

First time using my Rooney 1/2, I mashed it like a synthetic. A few of the hairs in the center of the knot got tangled. After the know completely dried. I had to gently untangle with a toothpick. Since then, I've just been using the tips and it's been lathering great.

First off, congrats on your new brush.  I own the Chubby 1 for face lathering and it is a phenomenal brush.  When loading and lathering I wouldn't say that I am super conscious only using the tips but I am not mashing it into the soap or my face.  I feel like a little pressure is needed to efficiently whip up a nice dense lather.  I think the feel of the brush on your face should be a nice guide as to how much pressure to put.  With mine too little pressure and I don't feel the brush is effectively lathering, too much and I feel as though the whole brush is splayed and I'm lathering with the base of the knot.  Just play with it and you will figure it out.  The chubby line up is really something special.  Take care of it and it will last you a long time.  Be patient with the break in process.  In the beginning I hated mine, thought about selling it, but I kept with it and now I couldn't imagine a better brush for face lathering.

I was always under the impression that you shouldn't mash the brush whether loading the soap or face lathering as you want the tips of the brush to do the work.

Never, never, never mash any brush! It's a definite no-no. Not even boars should be mashed.

Use only the outer 1/3 of the brush no matter what the source of the fibers.

In natural fiber I have a chubby1, and in synthetic I have a chubby2 and they are fantastic brushes. In the case of the badger, it's wall of very soft badger and I have that in Simpsons Best. The Ch2 I have in their synthetic in 54 loft and it has gel like soft tips but with huge backbone. Fantastic brushes! Good luck with yours! I love mine.

I agree with the bedding in process of the Chubby brushes. I have a Chubby 2 in best badger and while I was realising a bit of a brush fantasy in getting it I was a touch underwhelmed at first. Because the knot is so dense at first I felt like it was just bouncing off my face and it was really unsatisfying to use particularly since I wanted it for so long. It changes fairly quickly with use it is an absolute dream now so do yourself a favour and stick with it if you find it a bit cumbersome at first. As far as mashing the brush is concerned I don't think it's a good idea for any brush but sometimes I just can't help myself.
Also a lot of the video's I watched and posts I read on it said to get as much water out of the knot as possible before loading, I found this lead to the knot just gobbling up the soap and not really giving it back as lather. Now I make sure there is little bit of proper moisture in the bristles before loading and if its too much I just shake it off and carry on. Enjoy!

I wouldn't mash any brush. Boar or badger. I never have. No need to. This could lead to bad things...

Treat the brush just like you stated, no need to mash it. Some people on you tube who should know better say lather like you hate it that is good advise if you want to constantly buy new brushes. The Chubby 2 is my go to brush and I have about 30 other brushes and the Simpsons is the best of them IMO.
