This was about 3 weeks or so ago at a local coffee shop.

Chris, that hat is perfect for the whole look, much better than a baseball cap and, I am guessing, much more protective in that desert sun.

I am one of those people who simply does not look good in hats.  Fortunately, it helps that I don't enjoy wearing them, either. Big Grin

I've never been comfortable in a hat until I started shaving my head. Prior to that, I wouldn't even wear wool beanies in the winter. Hats and I just didn't get along...until we needed to. Now I have a selection of wide brim hats, cowboy hats, flat caps, driver's caps, ball caps, and a bunch of beanie options for winter time.

The cowboy hat in the photo is currently my favorite. Lightweight for the heat of the summer, and protects neck, scalp, and ears far better than sunscreen alone can...

Interesting. I've been just the opposite. I don't find hats nearly as comfortable now that I shave my head. I do wear the occasional ball cap (like in the picture above) if I know I'll be out all day. I've got a handful of nice felts that only make it out a few times a year these days. I have an old straw that I really only wear to do yard work in. I really need to pick up a new palm leaf. I had one that I ruined in a river expedition in Oklahoma a few years ago. Most comfortable cowboy had I've ever owned.

Lovely moustaches and beards, gentlemen! Happy2
I have no idea how you guys tolerate the beards during the heat/summer months. I never had any patience. Shy

It's all about the sunburn. I'm of German heritage, and as such, I am very pale. I got blistering sunburn as a child all over my back and shoulders, and spent several days in the hospital for treatments. I was 6. Those memories stick around...

So I wear hats outside. Unless it is early morning or evening, when the sun is low enough to lose intensity, I wear hats outside. It's a curse...

I hit a setback. Got tired of chewing my whiskers after about 6 weeks in. Trimmed my mustache back with the beard trimmer.

Now I'm back at the wirey irritating stage with enough length to keep going in the right direction but not enough to lay flat or sweep to the sides. I didn't measure my progress but was close to the lip line from the top under my nose. I used the little guard that said 5mm. Seems like about half.

It's the longest I've grown a mustache before. I need to changed career paths so I can grow a beard. I've never let it all grow out longer than a week's vacation in the past 20 years. I have a feeling judging by my mustache and whiskers now, I never paid much attention before, that I've got a little more salt than pepper now....

People really dislike change. Hahaha. I am really enjoying the comments and double takes. Especially from people I haven't seen recently. Hahaha.

Still not ready to throw a picture up yet. Some day.

I double checked the calendar.

I was closer to 10 weeks in.

Oh well. I might have buzzed back a month of it.

You guys, gwsmallwood and Chris, and Cliff, Freddy too... You guys got the genes. I'm just trying to anchor my pudgy face. Dang. If I can get just some of the fill and symmetry you dudes have I'll be happy.

I'm not giving up though. I've gone this far. No electric trimmer until 2018 at least!

My latest issue is where to cut? At the ends. Corner of my mouth. At the smile line? At the actual corner? My mustache seems to grow right over to my ear so where does it no longer look right? Is it part of the beard at a certain point? I'm going for the Chevron or Walrus.
Shave yourself.
