Should you leave your blade in your razor?

Off the top of my head I cannot think of which blades, but I'm sure we've all seen those which print on the wrapper, "Do Not Wipe." 

I guess the teflon, or whatever, coating might be damaged, or removed if the blade is wiped.

Anyway, I strop straight razors, but never DE/SEs. Nor do I 'cork' Feathers, or any other blades known to be ultra sharp. YMMV.

As for getting multiple shaves out of one blade ... I must have a different beard/skin than some of y'all. I get 2 to 3 and dump the blade.

Part of being 71, and having thousands .... yes thousands ... of blades is I can pamper my ... As Obie would say, 'Hollywood face."  

I usually get three shaves out of a razor blade before it is done. There are a couple brands where I can get two. I guess I don't worry too much about trying to hang onto blades beyond that. I never strop, rinse, or cork blades. I just remove them from the razor and let them dry out. Then, it's good to go for the next shave.

I'll scrub my razors with a toothbrush and some dish washing liquid a couple times a year. And I'll lubricate the threads with some Daiwa oil after I've scrubbed it and it's going to sit for a while.

Actually...I can shower AND shave in 15 minutes and that includes what little postshave cleanup I do.  Listen, all I care about when I'm done shaving is make sure my poo is DRY. I don't care about soap scum, I don't care (well sorta) about glue dots.  As long as it's dry when I walk away, I'm good.

I generally have 3 or 4 razors in use at a time (3-4 weeks).  When I'm done with those 3-4 razors, they get the full spa, treatment including a Scrubbing Bubbles soak, a gentle rub down, and polish with a Flitz cloth.  They get assembled and put in a stand or hung in a rack. Next time I go to shave, I pick whatever I'm in the mood for and repeat til the next spa day.  Note: I don't do my Toggles like that. They get used for a week or so and then fully cleaned.

It's not perfect, but it works in my den.  I have plenty of counter space and the relative security to have some gear laying around.  I'm blessed to have some high end gear to play with. I try to keep it all in as perfect shape as I can.  It's not hard to maintain and the spa days are kinda fun getting them all cleaned up again.

For the record I'm with Felix aka, LOOT on this issue.  Take it apart, rinse it, dry it, lay it out.  I don't dry the blade beyond hot rinse flick it dry-ish and lay it out.  I live in a dry climate so stuff dries quickly.  And for the record anal retentive does not have a hyphen.

That poll just tells me 58% of y'all is all wrong.

Seriously tho, and I'm really not trying to be a razor snob, but how does the value of the gear influence that poll?  If we were all issued SuperSpeeds, The 58% would likely grow to 90%.  I would hope, if the majority of the guys answering had a Wolfman, or an original Darwin, the 58% would drop to danged near zero.

I never disassemble my razor - except to put a new blade in. No rusing issues at all so far. I don't generally take a lot of time for my shaves - except for special occations, it's generally around 3 minutes including lathering.

I take apart my razor, remove the blade and give it a rinse and shake and hang it on a magnetic strip on the side of my medicine cabinet. I rinse the razor or pieces thoroughly and wipe dry with a microfiber towel. I put it back together in the am and place it on my shave rack. I never leave a blade in my razors, not worth risking Tea stains on my collection just my OCD

I use my razor then rinse it. I only use blades for a max of 3 uses, usually 2. When I change blades I give a scrub with a toothbrush and soap, shake pat and let dry. I do not remove blades unless I am discarding it. It has worked for me for some time. I have had nary and issue with any razor, plated, steel, brass or otherwise.

I like the black marker idea Max, I'm stealing it unless you give it to me ... 

I have a patent on it    but because we go back such a long time I'll let you steal it. 

I dissemble a 3-peice razor or open an adjustable and wipe the blade and razor dry then put it all back together. It sits in the stand until it is used. I tend to change blades every Monday so blades either go 1 or 2 weeks depending on the blade and how I feel. Never have had rust in 5 years nor tea stains only glue marks which rub off with ease. Nothing too fancy here. Don't forget these blades cost what 10 cents each versus $4 for those cartridges no one here uses.
