who else has the great displeasure of having to shave sideways on their neck to go truly WTG? what seems to work best for you to accomplish this?

I do this all the time with my DE's. No issues fortunately, Start from the side of the neck and go straight across until I get near the adams apple and then angle up under the chin.

Most of the time I start from the middle, go left and then right.

I have that same growth pattern. I typically do 2 XTG passes. On the second pass, I tilt the head of my razor 25 or 30 degrees towards the grain and shave up like I would normally.

I used to do it but it was very risky and resulted in many cuts so I stopped. Anymore I go WTG on the first pass, ATG on my neck on the 2nd pass and XTG on my face, and either a 3rd WTG cleanup on my neck or a full WTG pass on my face and neck. The 3rd WTG pass on my neck usually leaves me with a BBS on my neck. I don't go for BBS on my face very often anymore but I do like it on my neck.

I'm in.
I use J hooking with both DE and carts to get BBS on my neck.

Sideways on the neck (right ear to left) is more or less ATG for me. My three neck passes are north-south, south-north, and sideways. Works nicely for me.

That my most troubled spot, and I hate when its left picky. I have better luck with a mild razor and a blade that's on its 3rd or greater use. If you think its risky with a DE, try it with a straight lol

Some areas I have to but I've found that shaving up or down at an angle does well also. Regardless I still have areas that require a sideways pass.

Before shaving I use a wet cloth and scrub my neck, checks, etc. paying attention to go against the grain. I find this helps to expose more whisker and somewhat desensitize the area. My neck hairs either face down or to the right so my passes are as follows. Down, up, downward angle to the left, upward angle to the left in a couple spots, then sideways to the left.

Doing how I do above paired with a good soap, razor, & blade leaves me with no irritation 99% of the time.

Right under the jaw it's no problem, I go left to right about 3/4 of the way & then switch to the opposite for the remaining 1/4 (necks are weird).

I don't try to go sideways right near the adam's apple, just up, down, or diagonally around.
