My secret is Time.
Mostly when I rush my shave, the results are not as close nor as comfortable as it could be.

Just wanting to see what shaving secrets you all used to achieve 'your best shaves'. It doesn't have to be a true secret, I.E. something only a select few know, just name whatever you deem your secret weapon to be. I will list some of mine below.

1. I like using CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser as a shaving gel for my pre-shave treatment. It cleans my face much like pre-shave soaps without stripping everything away. It is high in glycerin so it adds lots of slickness to my shave. And the ceramides helps to toughen the skin so I get less weepers on a monthly average.

2. I always hot towel my face with some emu oil before the CeraVe cleanser. This opens my pores all the way up and the emu oil, being a penetrating oil, helps my skin to stretch. I don't have to worry about the cleanser washing everything away because the emu oil will sink into the deeper layers of my skin. The stretch-ability of my skin is insane at this point and continues to help against irritations and weepers. These two methods alone reduce any irritation/weepers to maybe one every 3 or so months.

3.I recently got a Dirty Bird 1.5 shave scuttle and I immediately notice my shaves have been that much closer. I believe this is due to the warm lather keeping my pores open during the entire shave.

Let's hear some of your secret weapons!!!

I've heard of people using emu oil before. where do you buy yours from?

A few secrets that are probably not really secrets around here:

- visualize shaving hair, not skin whenever razor is moving on my face (automatically lightens my hand pressure, significantly, for some strange reason)

- have a fairly loose finger grip on razor while keeping wrist locked (allows razor head to lightly ride and sort if twist/conform to the contours of my face & neck without grabbing or slicing into skin and also allows me to easily apply only the outer edge parts of the blade when dealing with squirrelly growing hairs on hills/valleys on chin & neck areas to attain BBS/DFS result without irritation)

- stretch skin when buffing smooth the usual trouble spots, like straight razor users do as a matter of course (significantly reduces razor burn, bumps & weepers)

If I do these three things, get my lather dialed in, and don't get rushed/distracted = BBS

I tried it for several shaves, but the lather always disappeared almost instantly on my face. Badger needs to test their shaving soap before they release it for sale IMHO. It is a shame that so many artisan soaps have the same problem.

Maybe a superlather with your favorite shaving cream would work? I never tried this, but it might help.

For me, time, time, and take more time while shaving. Enjoy every second of it!

Make shavesticks out of my good-but-second-tier soaps and use as a preshave. Definitely makes a difference.

My 'secret weapon' is short strokes. I have a tendency to use long strokes with whatever razor I use, but when I consciously focus on using short strokes, the shave is closer and more comfortable.
