I decided to stick with the Canada Shaving Soap for the week, and switch to a favorite razor that is well over 100 years old now. The GEM Damaskeene is a smooth shaver for me and it sparkles at me every time I open the razor box, so I decided to start the year with my oldest razor and my newest brush!

Gorgeous setup thru and thru Eric !

Hey. Nothing wrong with a good stock of soaps, especially if they are scentless and hence stable. Regarding the fear of missing out on a good base... why not. There are a lot of excellent artisans out there. I'd say it's good to know which you prefer. Buying them at one time... also, why not. The way the economy is going, they're not getting cheaper. You locked in a good price on soaps you knew you wanted to try. Well done, in my book.

As you can see, I can justify anything. Lol. Just know, it doesn't mean I'm right. Heck, my track record isn't so good.

On that line of thinking, I'm really having trouble telling myself I don't need another razor. I might have to try the mild Henson. Temptation is real (and evil). Lol. So, can you compare it to the Overlander - or maybe you did? I need to reread your review. A memory is a terrible thing to lose.

Hey Paul, I know I did a comparison, but it may have been a private communication with another member. Actually, it was both! Here is the link, but the TL;DR version is that the rounded corners make it that much more comfortable, but I still think the OL wins for efficiency. In the end, I am stoked to have both!

Oh my, I haven't posted since 12/31/23?! (123123!!) Better fix that now!

Today and tomorrow:
RR Hawk V3, standard SB head
Kai Captain Titan Mild (new today)
MWS Sensitive Skin
APSCo Luxury mixed badger/boar in classic Stirling handle

Some may know that I found this razor to be mild, compared to a Vector and to a Colonial The General. Then I tried a Yaqi Romulus and the Hawk had notable blade feel compared to the Romulus. Recently, I was putting together some blades to send to another member to try, and I found that I have 4 (!!!) dispensers of these unguarded Capt. Titan Mild blades. So I put one in the Hawk this morning and had a more typical comfy shave again with the Hawk. I did get some red spots, which I can only assume were due to me being a little too carefree. The handle, by the way, is a Maggard Razors MR12, a 3.5" thinner diameter handle, orginally purchased for the Romulus but I am trying it out on the Hawk, too.

Yaqi has a razor called the Romulus? Hmm...

How about that Eric you gave some blades away and then you found some you had.
Reminded me of that Seinfeld episode where every time Jerry would lose something he'd gain it right back somehow.

Time for a little experiment. At the behest of a friend, I am going to use both the Yaqi Romulus and the Razorock Hawk v3 for the weekend.

We know the Romulus is mild, but I am giving it a slight advantage by using a fresh blade in it, whereas the Hawk's blade has two shaves on it already. The soap is as shown and the brush is the Trotter Handcrafts Supernova with an APSCo 24mm Independent fan synthetic knot. I am not sure if I am going to switch sides or passes or what yet, I'll just see what happens in the morning. Sometimes I get into the shave groove and forget that I wanted to switch razors or sides. In any event, I expect to be able to tell. And as I am working this weekend, the shaves will occur at roughly the same time each day.

I decided to use the Hawk only on my right side. When I moved to the Romulus on the left side, it only took a couple of strokes to realize that the weight of the Romulus was much lighter and may affect the comparison. So I swapped out the RR thin handle for the RR Halo handle.

Below you can see the difference between the handles.

How did it go? The Hawk shaved with more blade feel but felt smoother. Could it be the new blade in the Romulus needed to smooth out? I don't know. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. One red spot for each, user error on Romulus side and scaping a bump on the Hawk side. As of 10am, I cannot tell a difference. But the day is young!

Is that the Even Steven episode?  For a show about nothing they managed a Seinfeld episode about everything.
