Soap Notes: Murphy & McNeil Nil Scent

Last year a quartet of new unscented shave soaps arrived.

Here are my thoughts on Nil Scent, bottom left above.  I really liked Nil Scent by Murphy and McNeil. It made a very creamy lather with very good slickness. Post shave was pretty good, with less dry/tight skin than some other soaps, but not as good as Mystic Water Soaps (my Gold Standard). Almost as good as Mike's Natural Soap.

Soap Notes: Denton Majik Unscented

As you can make out, it is a 5.5oz tub. It easily produces a creamy and slick lather that reminds me of MacDuff Soap Company's Aspen Parkland unscented, or the PAA Scentsless CK-6 formula. In my opinion, this is a fantastic soap, especially at $19 per tub ($3.45/oz).

This week I have been using Nil by Shannon's Soaps. And I discovered an attribute of the Denton Majik that will push its unscented past Shannon's Nil. That is the post-shave feel. Quite by accident, I got distracted and didn't get my normal post-shave balm put on. But this soap's post-shave properties were fantastic and I only put on my balm because of habit! And today, in the normal time frame from finishing the shave to putting on balm, I noted my face felt like it was drying out. Could be winter, sure, but it could also be that Shannon's Nil isn't on the same level as Denton Majik, PAA's Formula CK-6, Mystic water, and MacDuff's Soap Company. I am not writing off Shannon's by any means, just putting down notes of my observations!

Confused2  Can you prove that those four soaps were acquired in 2022?

I pulled out the Big Badger today, with the idea of a Luxury Shave. All my badger knots small, except the Big Boy (did you have Big Boy restaurants? Man, good memories eating there with family when on trips or a special occasion). It is the Trotter Quasar (purple swirly) with a 26mm Manchurian knot. Great lather with Shannon's Soaps Nil and the Micormatic Clog Pruf Peerless.

Shannon's soap base is one of my all-time favorites!
