Scentsless Shaver
Oakland, ME
A disappointing shave, saved from horrible only by the other bit of kit in use, namely my Samish Dusk brush from Trotter Handcrafts and a nice soap, Bartigan & Stark Nil. I had decided last night to use my Karve CB today instead of the Overlander. So I moved the blade over, a blade that had been perfect in the Overlander, a NOS Rite Aid Personna blade.

My memory of recent shaves with the CB is one of nicks, stings, and irritations. Which is disturbing, as this razor, as I've droned on and on about, was The One from early 2018 to 2021 when Dave helped me "rediscover" single edge razors. Injectors are like cheating, which is most likely due to those nicks and stings I feel with the DEs I have, except for the Yates 921. My swiss cheese memory says it shaves great, too!

The point is, this morning I immediately knew it would take more passes to get as close as the Overlander, and when the nips and stings happened, I thought, "yup, this is what I remember." And then the assault in my neck began on pass 2, and on 3 I was waving the white flag. Little weepers, stinging, and not RCS! And I began thinking of selling again.

Oddly, it seems like I want to blame the razor. I thought about putting a different blade in, but Personna platinum chromes are my go to blade. Instead, I want to move the blade to the brass Overlander tomorrow and see what happens (I'll have the CB and a fresh blade handy).

I have sentimental attachment to the CB, but if I continue to reach past it for other razors, maybe I should find a new shave home for it.

On the home front, the boiler estimate is depressing. With the economy faltering, prices for everything are rising and so are the proposal costs. I may have to take up alternative employment, possibly pole dancing, to make more money (my plan is to accept money to keep my clothes ON!).

Hope your weekend goes well, folks!

Eric, I am sorry for your troubles my friend, but your pole dancing comment demands some sort of cheap shot. ¿Pics?

Lol. Funny thought, but it really is a serious and horrible situation. Everything is getting too expensive. You can choose to skip on luxuries, but a heater is kinda needed in Maine. They got ya and they know it.

I'm sorry to hear about the bad shave. I too have been having a run of crappy shaves, but it isn't the razor (I'm using the Overlander pretty much exclusively). I even switched to a tried and true blade, but had the same results. So it has to be my soaps. It explains a lot, and it also makes me very sad. I don't want to have to lose all (well, some) of the great scents I enjoy.

Sorry your shave wasn't enjoyable. If the razor really can't give you a nice shave, there's no reason to subject your poor face to that. [Image: giphy.gif?cid=349c9dd7axvjvvg9w4ox46will...y.gif&ct=g]

Sorry about the boiler Eric, just got an estimate for an upgrade replacing a door and 3 windows and gave them the go ahead. Pricey.....yes but want it done. Windows are custom preorder and will take @14 weeks after paying upfront. I just think of the waste as it could buy more razors Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Practical thinking won out though.........

This morning I put the NOS Rite Aid Personna platinum chrome into the nickel Overlander. As Tim says, it was right as rain, a wonderful Really Comfortable Shave, leaving me refreshed and happy.

So then it was to hair and make-up for the CB! Some light polishing followed by a little waxing and then on with the lights as it worked the purple runway! (Is the previous humorous or just disturbing?!)

In either case, the beautiful Christopher Bradley is now on the BSTs.

Second shave was even better than yesterday! The Clog Pruf Peerless is one of the few open comb razors that I get along with.

And The Fat Tuesday!

Well, the only reason I made it to work on time this morning was Sylvester. Seems I don't know how to set an alarm, but thankfully my little furry buddy wanted to play, or drink water from a running faucet, or wanted to eat, or couldn't find his springs, or who knows what! But he needed something about 40 minutes before I needed to leave, and I barely had time for the 3 S's! The shave ended up being a N/S sort of thing with stubble appearing by just after noon. But I made it to work on time. And work being a grocery store meat there was aisles of choices to break my fast. I chose Nescafe, a banana, and a bakery cookie. Take that, diet!

Hope your day went better!
