Streamline Update

TL; DR: I may have seated the blade incorrectly

Another forum member who uses a lot of vintage razors has informed me that on some of these razors that weren't initially designed for modern GEM blades can have seating problems resulting in really harsh shaves. I once did a pass and a half with my Slim having not tightened it up (I forgot that I had loosened it up to rinse it! That was rough!

When I removed the blade yesterday from the Streamline to put it into the Sabre, I noted lots of dried lather on the top and bottom of the left-hand side of the blade. I mentioned this to this other gent (handle is Whiterook on several forums. He had posted the Streamline which flared my RAD!) told me about the seating problems. So tomorrow I will gird my loins and attempt to seat the blade properly and get a decent shave!

And I will have 2 of these razors. My impulsivity got the best of me and I put a bid on just a razor (not the complete set of razor, case, strop, and stropping device). I bid the mininum and figured in 5 days someone would outbid me and that would be that. Then our Dave pointed out the set on Etsy. So I bought it. And yesterday my bid (the only bid) won, so I paid up and soon will have a second Streamline. Needless to say, one or both may end up there. I have an idea for the set, but am waiting for more pieces to fall into place before we do anything else rash!

thanks for reading my drama shave saga! I will add one thing. Both times I purchased, I told myself I'd move it on if it wasn't as good for me as my current razors are, so that is something I need to follow through on now!

A Three-peat!!
11/10, what a nice shave. Level 2 has left me feeling my baby face in awe at the smoothness. Good thing my soap is unscented and no aftershave or cologne, so I don't have to worry about being mobbed by screaming hordes of women!!  Cool

Switched it up for the weekend.

Leaf Thorn razor (Twig (on the left) made a stroke or two, but Thorn (right) did the vast majority of the shave. Thanks DanLaw for providing these!)
Personna Platinum Chrome (1)
Sample cream from Mike HighSpeed (Thanks!)
Fluffy Industries 86S with apshaveco luxury mixed bulb

A very nice weekend shave! Not as close as I like for a workday, but perfectly fine for a day at home.

Twig razor
Personna Platinum Chrome (1)
Stirling handle with another apshaveco mixed Luxury bulb (man, I love this mixed knot, so much so that I have 3 from APSCo and 1 Mistura from Semogue)
PAA Scentless and PAA Dreamscape scuttle

Using the multi-stroke pass technique (think extended buffing!), I got a top-notch shave with NO irritation, even though my muscles were cramping from so many reps!! Just kidding. And the reps weren't all that crazy. I enjoyed the longer shave with fantastic lather and a wonderful brush, so even if the time spent was longer, the results, both physical and mental, were rewarding.

Let's have a good weekend! Maybe even fire up the Weber kettle for simple delights like dogs and burgers!

Today was the Razorock Hawk v3 on a TiBam handle, Proline (5), MdC Nature, and the beloved Fluffy Industries Copper handle with the TNS shoat knot.
The knot lost a half dozen hairs at cleanup. I must be too rough in removing excess suds. They were all along the outer edge of the knot. But otherwise, this knot in this handle is one of the top boars in the bunch! One nick on my chin due to NOT heeding Mr. Solo's advice

I have a cautionary tale to share. Some of you may be aware that I bought an expensive vintage razor, cased with a strop and strop mechanism. The Streamline. I found it wasn't for me and I had been corresponding with another member who was also looking for one. I repackaged the razor with the packing the sender used (lots of bubble wrap to protect the case. I did insure it, as the Streamline seems to be rare.

The buyer, a great guy who shall remain anonymous, sent me these photos yesterday.

I have his permission to share these photos. What was the feeling in the pit of your stomach? Mine dropped to my toes.

BUT all was fine inside! The leather strop was dry as was everything else. I am assuming the bubble wrap kept it all intact. Which I am so thankful for having from the guy I bought from, allowing me to reuse it. I sure hope I would have been smart enough to do that anyway, but this has driven home the importance of packaging to me. From here on out, the item will be encased in a sealed bag. I have never seen the like of this. I have received items from amazon that had broken or spilled due to poor packing, but this box looks like it was submerged or left in the bottom of container that was open to rain!
