Scentsless Shaver

Another #friendship shave!

Razor: GEM Damaskeene (Dave in KY)
Soap: Haslinger's Aloe Vera (molon_labe)
Brush: Zenith boar (MilkCrate)

The result was smooth, and very close shave. If you have not been to Dave's Journal today, head over to read his comments regarding our community. I fully agree!

A question for the faithful Reader: Anyone try the PAA brush cleaner? I did, and thought I rinsed well, but, man, did my face tingle! No redness, but the tingling increased as the shave progressed. I used everything before, but I had used the cleaner on the boar to see if residual fragrance could be reduced. The cleaner has borate and white vinegar, as well as a small amount of scent added. I suspect that I needed to rinse, or even soak, the brush longer. Any suggestions, comments, and even wise-assery will be appreciated!

Sorry, rinsing or soaking longer couldn't hurt

Like Dave I have not used any special brush cleaner. Just used regular shampoo that my wife has, on my boar brushes.
Bacon smells heavenly. Pigs well......not so much.  I imagine your handicap of using scentless soaps only. Lets the unpleasant ambiance of boar funk ruin your shaves. Wish I had a easy fix for ya buddy.

A quality shampoo once every few months works wonderfully. No need to purchase anything else.

The set up kit for this week:

Razor: Schick Type I, the Hydro-magic
Blade: sChick
Soap: Shannon's Soaps Nil
Brush(es): feeling astro-spacey for the line up!

Clockwise from bottom: Cities from Space (28mm Timberwolf knot), Supernova (24mm SynBad knot), and Aurora Borealis (28mm 2BED knot). All handles from Trotter Handcrafts (he has an Etsy store!)

On the soap front, I didn't realize Nil was up in the rotation. Fortuitous, as I had just finished a week with the highly regarded CK-6 formula soap from PAA. So while not a head-to-head same-day comparison, it is pretty close! And Shannon's wins for slick, easy to make lather! But the PAA made more lather faster, and thus required more finagling on my part to get it where I wanted it. So, a tie, given I am not "dialed in" yet with the CK-6. But the take home message: Shannon's Soaps Nil, in its original formula (which I believe is still the ONLY formula), stands up amazingly well to the well-engineered an more expensive PAA CK-6 Scentsless formula. Both are going to be enjoyed while in my soap drawer!

Have a great week, folks!
