He's the busiest person I know, so no chance of him ever frequenting a board. He said what he likes best about the wet-shaving is he has a chance to relax for 20 minute or so. He does the hot towel treatment prior to the shave while soaking his brush, and said it's therapeutic.

I dunno BadDad.  You don't see the following as universally true?

"Wet shaving will cost way, way, way, way more than you expected."   Tongue

So...I was all prepared to respond to this, but I see I have been beaten to it by quite a few folks...

Also, I don't think YMMV is a myth. Just because a phrase is overused and becomes cliche doesn't necessarily mean it is no longer pertinent. The only reason phrases becomes cliches is because they are generally true.

YMMV is nothing more than a quick and easy way to say, "You and I are genetically different, which inherently means our skin, hair, allergies, sensitivities, muscular control, learning curve, preferences, assumptions and experiences will not be the same. This means that we may not have the same opinion of how a piece of kit performs, and that's OK. It's nothing personal."

I think that concept is not only pertinent and accurate, I think it is inarguably true...

I couldn't agree more. Well said Chris.

I agree that YMMV is a great way to communicate what BadDad said. My post wasn't speaking to YMMV, but rather trying to make a joke about how much money most of us spend on wet shaving.

I've read that so many times it no longer means anything. Cliches have no value when overused.

Your Miles Might Vary only applies if you bought a VW Diesel car  Big Grin (allegedly)

Sorry, Pete123 , I was responding to grim with my YMMV statement...

I guess you missed the Big Grin as my comment was an allusion to the fact the acronym YMMV has been ripped from the EPA for CAFE standards on cars and the fact the VW Diesel Scandal is going to probably result in a massive fine in the Billions of dollars for VW. It was a joke.

I am not attacking you, Mr. Grim.

As I said I gave that complex instrument a month - OK, 4 weeks to prove itself to ME. I was more than just disappointed. I was bothered by its advertising campaign which I felt was untrue as far as I was concerned.
The price of one of their 5 edge cartridges at $6.50 was outrageous considering its poor performance - for ME.
The nasty sensation of that device vibrating on MY face was to ME a useless and annoying gimmick.

MY test consisted of one week of shaving with this world shaking invention on the left side of MY face and a very old Rolls Razor on the right side of MY face and making careful comparisons with MY best highly sensitive tools, MY hands.
The next week I switched sides. And so on for the 4 weeks.
That wondrous, complex device lost out every time without a single exception.

I had the foresight to buy it at Costco because I knew they would not give me any difficulty if I had to return it.
The gentleman who accepted the return was very curious and interested in my reasons.

So please do not take any personal offence.
If Gillette wishes to chastise me I would be pleased to discuss the matter with their representative.

Mickey Oberman

I think you totally miss my "myth". Its not about whether it was good for you or anyone. It has not nothing to do with price

Rather, it was  " - cartridges are simple and easy to make ....

They are not. They each have 78 spot welds. The edge width is 25nm. Only 2 factories in the world have the equipment to make them.

None of this has anything to do with how well they work for you, me, or anyone else. "Our" opinions on how they work have nothing to do with this.

Just trying to help you understand.
