I’m not sure when I joined this forum, a few years ago, give or take. I think shortly after its inception. I was brand new to wet shaving then. Over the course of my first year in wet shaving, I think I ordered enough soap and aftershave for a decade. I bought razors, scoured antique shops for hidden treasures and then realized I had more stuff than I needed. I imposed a 16 month moratorium on any shaving purchases. It was hard at first, then as time went on, I simply shaved. Slowly, empty soap containers found the garbage, as did aftershave bottles, the cheap brushes I bought early on that lasted longer than they probably should of also found the garbage. The blade supply dwindled and as of yesterday I was down to two soap containers and 12 aftershave bottles, 50 blades, and a partridge in a pear tree. The razors are still egregious, but a guy has to collect something.
Along the way I never stopped peeking in on the forum. I even dabbled in things I wouldn’t of otherwise. I still use a fountain pen at work, albeit traditional watches for me didn’t take, as blasphemous as it is, Apple Watch is what I wear daily. I must say many of my friends have appreciated handwritten letters over the last couple of years. Time still matters. Give someone your time of a handwritten letter, it’s appreciated across the board; at least in my experience.
This forum has made me want to end my moratorium an many accord. Thankfully, beer in hand, the moritorium is over.... soaps, aftershaves, and razors coming this week. Old news to many of you but I’m anxious to try the charcoal goods and Timless hardware I have coming and all the soaps and splashes referenced here over the last 16 months.
Shaving sobriety has come, lets get drunk again.
