One thing I've done that helps is I only wash my face once per day instead of twice. I also only shave with the grain. Another thing to try as far as diet goes is to watch your sugar intake. It's in so many things that you don't realize how much your eating, even if you don't eat sweets. This may not help you though, so I would definitely agree with going to a dermatologist.
Acnes could be because of many other things apart from shaving.
Stress, diet ( more oily n fatty), exercising regime etc & shaving technique of course are some of the main reasons for acnes.
I have never had acnes in my teenage but last 8-9 months I keep getting breakouts, largely because of my shaving habit. I tend to go against the grain on an aggressive setting.
Nikos in his posts has largely covered many of the points. I would like to share my thoughts too in the next few lines.
1. Shaving is a trauma to the skin and shaving every other day will sooth the skin and give time to heal. Instead of keeping a beard pls give one day break.
2. Getting a good facewash helps. IDC pearl by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals is a good one to try for this problem.
3. Diet control is the key not only for shaving but for maintaining a healthy life. Please cut down on meat, oils and packaged foods. Have lot of fruits and salad during the day.
4. Don't go for antibiotics or any other medicine as it fiddles with normal working of our brain. Instead, pls focus on the tips shared above.

I find that anything with salicylic acid actually gives me more acne. I think it's important to minimise the number of chemicals on the face (maybe something to do with pH). The best course of action for me is to use products with the minimum number of ingredients and only ones of medicinal value such as tea tree, witch hazel, etc. I also find products with zinc in them to be very beneficial.
A clean blade and towel are just as important also. If I use the same towel for more than a few days, it will give me acne.
Having said this, I also know acne is quite different between people and there is some trial and error needed. The best advice I can give is start with the bare essentials, stick strictly to a routine for a few weeks to let your skin settle in to that routine and then make small changes (i.e. change 1 product), and wait a few weeks again to see what happens. The worst thing you can do is chop and change things around on a daily basis.
Edit: When it comes to aftershaves, avoid all the flowery perfumes/slimy balms and pick something made to be helpful to the skin, I use Speick which is great stuff.
