Didn’t realize it had been a few days since my last update. I have been lurking, but not posting. Things have been the usual crazy busy at work and shaves have been the calm in the storm.

Weekends have mostly been honey-do’s and chilling. This week I have been kicking it mostly old school with the shaves. Life is good!

This morning’s shave was kinda different. A very good shave was had, it was just the process of choosing what to use. I probably stood there for 5 minutes trying to decide and Avon won the day. A nice, relaxing three pass shave left me BBS for the win! Life is good!

Pre Shave-
Strop: Tony Miller Plain Vanilla
Scuttle: none
Splash and go

Shave-
Razor: Ralf Aust SR
Blade: none
Brush: Shavemac Beehive
Soap: Ethos Succes

Post Shave-
Post shave lather
Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel
AS: Ethos Succes

The Deets -
Today I woke up mid-morning and drank a pot of coffee, just to ease into the day. Yes … today is a chill day. Once I had both eyes open, it was time for a shave. Ethos sounded good, so it got the nod. The Aust and Shavemac delivered as well.

20 laps on cotton and 60 on leather and it was go time. I went with my standard three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG with no drama to report. Nice … very nice! Threw in the witch hazel after the post shave lather and a rinse. Wrapped everything up with a splash of the aftershave and everything was right as rain. Outstanding shave and I am BBS for the win! Life is good!

Shave Count (DE: 649 SE: 9 SR: 1029)

Pre Shave-
Strop: Tony Miller Plain Vanilla
Scuttle: none
Splash and go

Shave-
Razor: Dovo SR
Blade: none
Brush: RR 400
Soap: MDC Agrumes

Post Shave-
Post shave lather
Thayers Witch Hazel
AS: Florida Water

The Deets -
Yesterday was the Boker and DR Harris Windsor … so nice.

Today I jumped way out of my normal, as you can see from the pic. I had a sample of MDC and wanted to give it a try. So first use of the Burt’s Bees shaving mug that I’ve had for some time (I face lather) and I grabbed the RR 400 synth. As you may know from reading, I’m not much of a synth fan. I also snagged the Florida Water, which hasn’t seen much use this summer.

So bowl lathering. I whipped up a really nice lather, but had it a bit too wet at first. Kept working it and it thickened up nicely. The MDC delivered a very nice shave and was slick. The ones that have used it know this. I guess the sample may have been old because I really couldn’t smell it. I need to find better samples for this, I would like to try most of them except for the rose. Anyway, a very nice 3 pass shave was had. Wrapped everything up with a healthy splash of the aftershave and everything was right as rain! Very nice indeed. Life is good!

Home Front-
I have posted short deets for a while now, mostly lurking and posting here and there.  I have just been trying to get a few things sorted. So we are having to go back into the office more now and they have taken away the casual dress code. Before the pandemic, there was an older Gent that ran a shoe shine stand downtown. I never have been to one before, but saw him working there for years. My dress shoes needed some help, so last week I sought him out. To my surprise, his small business survived the pandemic and he is still working. So I jumped up into the chair. Got a great shoe shine and some good conversation. I will be frequenting him from now on.

As I mentioned, yesterday was a very nice Windsor shave. We attended a “Celebration of Life” service for a friend from our church. Those things always seem to make me reassess things. Hm. What a strange year it has been.

Today is just a chill day and I will probably break out a book that I recently picked up. If you read this through, thanks for indulging me in my ramblings. Just a few random time slices of a milkcrate.

Razor: Ralf Aust SR
Blade: none

Post Shave-

Thayers Witch Hazel
AS: PAA Sangre de Drago

The Deets -
This week I will probably just mix things up as I feel like it … just because. Today the Ralf Aust got the nod and it’s a great shaver. So far I have been able to maintain the JNat edge with just my strop. Hope I didn’t jinx myself. I have some leftover Sangre de Drago aftershave and it sounded like a good choice too.

Started out with 20 laps on linen and 60 on leather. I went with my standard three passes of WTG, XTG and ATG with no dra … ok, maybe a smidge of drama. The razor did bite me today, but just enough to remind me to pay attention. Didn’t even bleed. In spite of that, a very nice, relaxing shave was had that left me BBS for the win! Wrapped everything up with a healthy splash of the aftershave and everything was right as rain! A bit of sting on the bite, but it passed quickly. A man, I smell good. Life is good!
