Initially, I was hoping the cost of these would come in where I would be able to break it down into two payments for folks...a down payment now and then the final payment when I'm shipping. I'm producing these with no tools so that added to the cost quite a bit. Parts like the doors are being produced with no tools. The Kickstarter project assumed I would raise enough to make tools. My new costs are based on the reality of no tools. By no tools, I mean I'm not producing some of the 'plate' parts using MIM, Powder Metal or even investment casting.

Tools are expensive but the piece part price is low. Going the tool-less route means the piece part price is high. A win for the tool-less route is that this is favorable to the project schedule as there's no time needed to fabricate and debug tools.

I'm sorry Eric I wasn't asking about why the costs but when should we expect to come up with funds to pay ?

Hello Eric,

Is there any additional changes to the specs of the razor outside of the last update we received?

when will your site be open to take orders?
As soon as I have 51, I will email all on the list about when the buy button will become live. I will also post here when the button is active.

How does one become one of the 50?
All I need at the moment is a note saying reserve serial #X for me.

I have looked at everything over & over and I don't see anything other than the red marks being a shade off than shown. Same for the laser marking. The machinists also don't see anything they can't make or will be troublesome to make.

If anything changes, I will let folks know plus I'm issuing refunds too just in case the changes are counter to what some folks were expecting.

When the buy button is active. I will keep a wait list so that when somebody cancels, folks on the wait list get a chance to purchase.

Just wondering... What was the reason to reduce the overall length from 4.29" to 4.00"?

weight, design proportions, ergonomics, cost...I will explain each point

When the Kickstarter project failed, the machinists and I looked at ways to reduce cost to counter the increase in per part set-up costs because of making much smaller batches that I had assumed there was demand for and for going the tool-less route.  One of the things we did was to use reduce the overall OD of the razor. For example, 9/16”OD 12ft ground bar stock to run on a Swiss CNC is more expensive than a 1/2”OD 12ft ground bar stock. Plus reducing the length of parts means I'm getting more parts out of a 12ft long bar. These changes helped some in countering the increase in cost of making really small batches.

After I reduced the OD but left the length unchanged, the design proportions looked off - skinny and super long. So I reduced the length to be a tad longer than the Vintage Toggle. I tried couple lengths of dummy 3D printed razors before I found a sweet spot. This improved the ergonomics as now pinky finger rests on the toggle knob when shaving. All these changes collectively shaved off 20g. This final design of the Janus Razor will be ~16g heavier and a tad longer than the Vintage Toggle.

Can you tell the weight of Janus Razor?

100g. The CAD program calculates the weight after assigning density to the CAD model. That is how I know what the weight of the product is before cutting any metal.
