Gentlemen the pass around will be postponed and I’m not sure when it will begin again. I’d rather Eric explain why but we are all heading back home today from the Maggard Shave Meet in Michigan today and I’m guessing he will come on here probably late tonight or tomorrow as everybody is traveling back home. I’ve personally got a 7hr drive and I know some others that have longer ones than I do.

I am sure the pass around will happen but I’m not certain on how long it will take before it will begins.

Again Eric will be on to explain on why it has to be postponed.

Thank you!

It was an excellent Shave meet and we all had a great time. Met up with some members I’ve talked on here and other forums, by email, text and phone but finally got to put a face on the name. Made some new friends who are members, venders, soap makers and artisan razor makers. Oh and coming back with the wallet a little bit lighter! Lol So an excellent meet up.

Thank you!

Janus Razors Eric...34 razors sold with 16 hours to go on the Kickstarter campaign doesn't look good for funding. What will be the plan going forward to bring the Janus to market? Also, why cancel the pass-around? Thanks in advance for your personal attention.

I imagine the pass around cancellation is due to fear of losing a razor that may never be reproduced again.

I can assure you that the razor will come to market but I agree unless it happens in the next 14 hrs it's not going to happen via the Kickstarter program. There is a plan B that was put in place this weekend and I think those that wanted or will want a Janus will be very pleasantly surprised when Erice is ready to release the info on the launch out. AQU I can assure you the reason for the pass around being postponed has nothing to do with what you mentioned but I'll let Eric explain why as soon as he comes on here. Hopefully he didn't fall asleep as we all where pretty exhausted from our trip.

Disclaimer I am not receiving anything for these reviews other than a chance to try the Prototype
When I got the razor at the PO this am my first impression was you could tell it was designed and built by an engineer with no one stepping in and saying if you trim this or skimp on this we will save money. The Janus appears to be built like a tank. It looks like a large razor but it’s balance and maneuverability were surprisingly very good. On with the comparison
Pre Shave - Hot Shower
Soap PannaCreama Nuavia Green
Brush Brad Sears Ebonite Pug
Blades New Polsilver
Post Shave Thayers Lemon followed by C&S Neroli
I had a 3 day beard as I expected the Razor either Thursday or Friday and didn’t shave. Razor arrived Sat AM

First Pass WTG
Both razors handled the 3 day growth without any difficulty I used the Janus on my left and the Jet on my right. There was more blade feel from the Jet and although the Jet was smooth the Janus was significantly smoother on setting 9. After the pass I did a quick rinse and face feel and found both took down the majority of my beard in 1 Pass but the Janus was slightly ahead especially on my neck.
2nd Pass XTG
For me this Pass is South to North on my neck but ear to nose on my face. Again the smoothness of the Janus on setting 9 was impressive both razors gave me a good Pass and when it was done I was BBS on my cheeks and part of my neck on the Janus side and DFS everywhere else while the Jet gave me BBS on my cheek only. Still a very comfortable shave to this point by both razors.
3rd Pass ATG
This is South to North on my face but ears to Adams Apple on my neck.
With this pass the Jet had a couple of spots on my neck where it skipped a little, this is not an unusual occurrence for me with many razors I have tried   The Janus still on setting 9 had no difficulty ATG.
End result was BBS everywhere with my normal 3 pass shave. I found the Janus to be surprisingly smooth especially at level 9. I had no issues using it under my nose I just need to push up on my nose and it worked great.
I really want to see if I could use Level 9 as a daily shave or if I am going to have to dial down after a few days in a row. As a comparison I can use my Wolfman .94 WR1 for about 3 days in a row before I need to switch or I will get irritated.
Here are a few pics, they are not that great as I have been pressed for time. I took one with the Janus hanging on my storage shelf next to a Slim, Fatboy and Toggle.

All I’ll say is wait till you put a Feather in the Janus. I found the Polsilver to be the least efficient in the Janus of the 3 blades I used in my time with it. Kai took it up a notch and the Feather a step up from that.

Hope you have the time before the show to run it against both the Ti RS 10! Also the .94 WR1 as I didn’t have the time to. Darn it took longer than normal to get to you!

Oh and the photos look fine!

Mark Shavemd , Thanks a ton for the feedback. A Feather blade will up the efficiency.

Hi everyone,

I had a chance to get really good feedback at Maggard's meet about the Janus Razor, and wet-shaving in general. Also putting faces to the names (like Shavemd and Dragonsbeard) I have talked with and emailed with was awesome. Some of the feedback I received this weekend and implicit in the comments on this thread - the preference of most who have tried the Janus Razor is for trying a production unit. If it is a prototype, then it should be very close to the production design. Additionally, most of what I have read in comments after Dragonsbeard shaveoffs is shaving performance reviews from a production razor or one much closer to production is preferred. It is a fair point; I understand that perspective. As a result, I wanna fix what I can to make a hybrid closer to production, and keep collecting feedback. For instance, some things like making the dial a little easier to turn are things I can turn around somewhat 'quickly'. I'm not worried about losing a prototype. Y'all have been doing passarounds for a long time so this is nothing new.

So now worries, I will keep fixing to get the prototype closer to the production design, and get on with the pass around once again to keep the feedback streaming in. I'm always open to learn a thing or two. Whatever I can do to make a hybrid closer to production, I wanna do. Wet-shaving is a good incurable 'disease'; It is not like I'm suddenly gonna drop off, and not care about the wet-shaving.

I enjoyed the back & forth with folks a fortnight ago.So I wanna keep do that. By the way, if any of you have a stop in Mn, please gimme a heads up. If I'm in town, I open to meeting.

Janus lvl 9 vs. Raw aggr plate

Equipment:
Soap- Eufros Dama de Noche (im a sucker for jasmine and this is night jasmine at that so Im a happy camper)
Brush- Declaration grooming Jefferson B5 28mm
Janus razor with new feather blade
Raw aggr plate with new feather blade
Thayers witch hazel
Maol grooming wilde flowers aftershave

Initial impression:
Holy cow this thing is big!...( thats what she said)...haha. Middle school humor aside the janus razor is a hefty razor and the weight is heavy compared to other razors. I thought this would be the big down fall of this razor and the reason why I would not like it but it actually surprised me during use...
The construction is top notch, if the world comes to and end tomorrow this razor will survive. It is very well built and I like how it uses 316 SS.
The notch changes setting easily and is straightforward

Shave:

1st pass WTG: I used the janus on the right and the raw on the left and from the first stroke I noticed that the weight of the janus is one of its best attributes. The weight complements the razor beautifully and makes it very balanced. When I shave I use no pressure and the weight helped to keep the razor at the perfect angle. The raw needs no introduction as it is a great razor (my favorite). I would tell even before I felt my face that the janus side was closer after the first pass. I would say for me the janus is about .5-1 step more efficient than the raw. Now comes the crazy thing... it felt almost as smooth as the raw. The raw is a very smooth shaver and I was surprised, but once again I feel that the weight of the janus helps with how smooth it felt. I would rate the raw about .5 smoother than the janus.

2nd pass XTG: With this pass my hair grows in different direction so this is usually the pass that makes or breaks my shaves and both sides did a great job. Once again the efficiency goes to the janus and the smoothness goes to raw but only by a bit. I was very impressed with how razor felt going XTG. They both gave me good audible feedback. In addition, the blade feel on the janus was minimal. I like aggressive razors and blade feel but I really appreciate a razor that has minimal blade feel while keeping the efficiency up.

3rd pass ATG: Here it was no surprise that ATG the janus did just as good of a job as the raw. Keeping in the same fashion the raw was a tad smoother while the janus has just a bit more efficiency. Going ATG with both razors was easy and smooth. At this point I was getting upset that the shave was coming to an end, but I have a feeling this will not be my last encounter with this razor.

Overall: This is a great razor and I hope that the kickstarter makes it. I am not currently a backer but I am thinking about. The price is expensive but as with anything in life the good stuff usually is. With how the razor first felt in my hand to the use I was impressed. Keeping in mind how smooth it was compared to the raw I was surprised and would love to see the Janus company take off. It was a pleasure to use and some might be put off by the size and the weight, but don't let it fool you...

bgolfo thanks for the shaveoff review. My thinking behind a heavier razor (120g) was to steady my hands and always serve as a reminder not to press hard. Obviously, a pro doesn't need this constant reminder. The length is that of a Super 109. I think taking off some grams and length while keeping the COM/COG the same at 2/3 from the bottom will improve the shaving experience. I didn't see anything about the dome making access to areas like under the nose and around the ears tricky/difficult.

By the way, your Raw is beautiful. I don't own one but from all photos I have seen of that razor, the craftsmanship is excellent.
