Shave review of Janus Adjustable razor and Shave Off vs Gillette F4 Toggle

I received my razor on Monday 6/1 and shaved with it. It is a beautifully made razor but for me even though I like blade feel I still need more smoothness and this gave me a great shave but it wasn't smooth enough for me. I spoke to Eric and he will take care of the situation for me, he is a wonderful person, honest and truthful and I will always give him my full support

Andrew I’m very curious how is Eric going to make changes so it’s a smoother shaver?

Eric understood and issued a refund immediately and he is going to take the feedback and then decide about making changes again to a new razor

I sent Eric a detailed email about my feelings on this production version of the Janus so I’m just waiting for a response from him.  I’m glad to hear he is taking peoples feedback and thinking of options.

I just got off the phone and we had an great talk about the current version of the Janis and the Prototype that I shaved with back when this thread was started. He asked me to let folks know that he will be coming on tonight and would like to make a statement and answer any questions you may have.

All I can say is Eric is one class act and just a good human being.

Gents,

Several customers have reached out to me that the razor does not work for them. Thanks for the feedback; I welcome it. And, thanks for waiting for a really long time to get the razor. Like you, I'm bummed out that the razor hasn't worked for everyone. It is unfortunate that the changes I made to the production design made it worse compared to how the prototype performed. In hindsight, I should have only made cosmetic changes (length, weight, etc.) and left the angles, gaps and exposures unchanged.
 
As promised at the start of this small batch, I would issue refunds to anyone unhappy with their razor. That promise still stands. Please reach out to me (email or call/text). If I don't reply immediately, don't worry because I will eventually reply.

Eric, any possibility that the razor could eventually go into production but with the angles and exposure of the prototype? I know that is a heck of a lot easier said than done. Thanks.

The one thing that really got to me is if you run your fingertips across the doors lightly over the line in the middle that separates one door from the other they do not close evenly and you can feel it. I've talked to one other who also talked to another owner who also had the same problem with uneven doors so that's 3 I know of.

Ok so in my discussion last night with Eric over the phone he said he could return it to it's original design in an hour or so.. Just so you and everyone else knows when I asked him in these words.. Eric why in Gods name did you change a razor that had such a great balance of both efficiency & Smoothness he replied because he got a few emails from people asking for more blade exposure! I was like wait did any of those people use or test the Prototype where their opinion mattered? His response was no they did not.  I was like why didn't you ask the people that did use it like myself and Mark and he said he realized he made a mistake and listened to the wrong people. The great thing is he is owning up to it. Some may be content with an adjustable razor that they will only use on setting 1,2 or 3 and never use it on 7,8 or 9 settings. I'm not! I want to be able to use the full spectrum of the settings without feeling like I just got dermabrasion performed on my face. I  used the Prototype on setting 9 for all but one review on here and also in a couple of private shaves I had with it where I was evaluating each of the settings as I was asked to do. So to answer your question Eric does have plans to make another Janus but it will be a while mostly because he has to find a machine shop that will work with him in a much better way than this last one did. Also I'd like to note that at first when I had him on the phone I was a little rough on him because of my frustration but like the gentlemen he is after I applogized to him for coming on a little strong he said no no I don't get upset or take things personal and I welcome feedback my friend so all is good and then we went on to have a awesome discussion.

He and I came up with an idea that either he or I will post up. I'm just not sure if he wants to do it or will give me the go to as I know he's quite overwhelmed right now. Either way it will be posted up hopefully either today or later in the week depending on how he wants to handle it. Its his company and his call but I think a bunch of you will be happy with what is planned.
