Shave Bowls

I can’t imagine you not loving it ?

My large CaYuen 'Breakwater' bowl arrived yesterday and shaved with it the first time yesterday. I was amazed how much lather it generated in so little time! Definitely a keeper! I was also impressed with the company since I ordered a shave soap sample and they ran out of them so they sent me a whole tub of the soap!

Here are a couple of pictures to give you an idea of how mine turned out since each bowl is different and you are just basically picking the color palate when you order from them.

This thin-walled stainless steel bowl was something like $5 Canadian, maybe less, at Atlantic Superstore, in with the salad bowls and other tableware.
It is 4" wide by 2" deep, close to hemispherical. A perfect proportion and profile for me. It does not have a rolled edge, so it's easy to wipe clean and dry.

With most of my brushes, I can park the brush in the lather and float the bowl in a sink full of hot water. This makes it like what is (incorrectly, IMHO) called a scuttle, but it stays hot way longer. The thin wall conducts the heat from the water to the lather faster.

The dimples are not as deep as they seem, so I got a spare to (some day) try hammering some deeper ones in, preferably in something like a Fibonacci double spiral pattern.

JUST RECEIVED TODAY.  A NortonCustomDesign 3D Shave Bowl.

This bowl is just perfect.  Inexpensive, great weight, shape and utility.  It has the best parts of other excellent bowls and puts them in a convenient easy to hold and use bowl.  The bottom has been made to make it very easy to hold while lathering.  The bowl is deep enough to accommodate every size brush.  The lip of the bowl is curved inward to keep the lather in the bowl.  In addition, that lip lets you scrape the brush of excess lather and still keep it in the bowl and not on your counter or floor.  The interior of the bowl has a rough surface in addition to raised strips on the bottom and side protrusions.  All this makes it simple to build a lather very quickly.  Great product at a great price available on Norton's site on Etsy.

Does it support hot water?

I have had no issue with hot water.  But I haven't put it into boiling water.  There should be no issues.

re 3D printing materials:
Boiling point of water is (by definition) 100º C.
HIPS and Polypropylene filament have a "Maximum Service Temperature" of 100º C and Polycarbonate up to 121º C, so it could be perfectly fine.
ABS goes to 98º.
The most common filament might be PLA, which has a max service temp of only 52º C.

Note that all of them require extruder nozzle temperatures ranging from 190º to 310º C, but that's slightly higher than their melting point, to help it adhere to the previous layers.

UPDATE ON NORTONCUSTOMDESIGN SHAVE BOWL

I have had the CaYuen Domino bowl, the HC&C stainless steel bowl and the Pereira bowl.  I used all of them and enjoyed all of them.  But, I have to tell you this new Norton Bowl has all the best of the functional uses of the others and none of the negatives.  Is it prettier than the CaYuen, nothing is.  But it builds a lather as well as the CaYuen and is much easier to hold and clean.  It is better than the HC&C and Pereira in that it holds more lather in the bowl than HC&C and is easier to spread the soap in the bowl than Pereira. 
I have put the Pereira and the HC&C on BST.  My go-to bowl is the Norton Bowl.  I kept the CaYuen just for its looks and a bit of variety.
