Over the years we have listened to feedback from many people. Tonka Bean Shave Co. is our response. Tonka Bean Butter is the slickest saponifiable ingredient in shaving! It is the scarcest and most expensive butter in the world. To compensate for that expense, we have toned down packaging and reduced the large sizes of soaps and serums that Sē'bŭm Gold offers. These are all new and independent formulas. Check out the offerings from our new sister company, Tonka Bean Shave Co.

Seems like Sebum is backing down on his claims of fire and brimstone for anyone using plastics and petrochemicals in their products, even though they are still plastered all over his Sebum Facebook page. Also on his claims that he had no interest in marketing a less expensive product, like in his interview with Yost to Coast on Instagram/YouTube.

Ingredients appear to be more or less the same as the SG Customs Tonka Bean Butter set, which afaik was only available as a complete set. Hope the customers who paid likely hundreds for their sets don't feel too ripped off now that the same product is offered for a fraction of the price.

We may never know the full price of the set, unless a buyer wants to chime in. But we have a better idea of the cost of the soap now. Plus the glass jars are only a couple dollars apiece https://www.glassnow.com/10oz-flat-round...lass-jar-1
As are the bottles https://www.glassnow.com/5oz-rio-glass-bottle

But maybe those wood labels make up the rest of the hundreds of dollars for the custom sets?

Turns out the cost of the set is still on the site, $395. So let's do some maths. SG customs Vetiver serum is priced at $270, while the full set was $435, so we can assume the soap cost was $165, or about 38% of the total cost. Translating that to the tonka bean is around $150. At seven ounces of soap that's almost $21.50 per ounce of soap. Now, very nearly the same soap, in apparently horrible environment-killing tubs, is available for $9.5 per ounce. The price of the glass container isn't making up the difference, neither is the cork, and I'm going to guess the wood label isn't either.

Let me ask, were those custom sets really worth it now?

Apologies for misremembering the price of Tonka. Wasn’t there a set around that price though?

I think you are remembering the Fossil set. Supposedly the cost of "ancient amber like you've never smelled before", or something along those lines, was exorbitant. Even though amber, the fragrance, has nothing to do with amber the mineral. Amber the fragrance is made up of vanilla, labdanum (resin from the rockrose flower, and benzoin (a tree sap). Maybe sebum man didn't know you don't actually get essential oils from rocks?

But you are right, that $850 set did also contain the tonka butter formula.
