Most of the available safety razors are made of zamak/pot metal/die-cast zinc and therefore are brittle when exposed to peaks of force.

Are there safety razors, that are NOT made of zamak/pot metal/die-cast zinc...?

I would prefer a razor made of something like (stamped?) Brass, Stainless Steel...
I want my razor to outlive me OR at least it should last longer than 15 years *lol* Big Grin

Thank you for your input! (Please deliver a source for your claims or at least some anecdotal evidence)

Any suggestions are welcome. Smile

You must be kidding right? Big Grin

BTW, welcome to DFS!

In all seriousness, there are many stainless steel or brass razors readily available, but be prepared to spend $100+ for one. Check out Rockwell, Above the Tie, Timeless or Blackland just to name a few.

wyze0ne is absolutely right. There are many razors now being made of brass, stainless steel, and aluminum.

If you don't want to part with $100 or more for one of them, look for a vintage Gillette here or on ebay. They were made of brass and were expertly plated with chrome. And there are now a few places that will replate them for you if need be.

And yes, welcome to DFS.

For the record later Gillettes (Techs 1964->) were also cast alloy.

I like the Gillette aristocrat from 1946/47, but the prices on german ebay are insane ^^

Nickel plated in almost every case. Chrome was only used from like 1928-1931.

Big difference is that chrome makes replating much harder as compared to nickel. Also nickel doesn't react with water and blister over time like chrome can.

- 316L SS metal that is used in marine tech ( ships, submarines etc), this is high quality steel material and its very hard to rust but it can get rust to stick to it for example a rusted blade if you leave it inside the blade.

- Aluminum that's used in aviation ( planes) very good durability almost on level with brass durability, non rusting

- Brass razors, Copper Razors, Titanium razors, Bronze razors

I think you wont find Brass stamped ones in the modern department, I think this manufacturing process is expensive and while being very precise the market is not big enough for a company to invest in this model of production. I'm not 100% sure and maybe some razors on the market that are TTO or Fatip razors might be brass stamped but it looks like by their tolerances in fitments they might not be. Either way even though they are not perfect they shave great!

I remember 4 years when I started DE shaving, we had so little options and prices were astronomical for new machined razors and some vintage ones specially the adjustable ones, now a days we are getting some amazing razors and the vintage ones prices have gotten much better. I'm truly enjoying the modern razors such as the Rex, many Razorock razors, Rockwell 6S, Supply Provision etc.

We have many high quality modern razors out there that are on par with the best vintage ones
