Review: Timeless Razor's OC model

It's not like he was given the razor for free to keep or getting paid for the review. It's just a trial run, therefore I don't think it's really going to influence his opinion of it. I'm sure darkbulb has enough experience with razors all over the price spectrum to give an objective review of this one, as he stated in the first post. I, for one, value his thoughts whether it's a "free trial" or not. However, it's not going to sway me into buying one. The price tag is too rich for my blood. I'm thoroughly enjoying the thread nonetheless.

Darkbulb, I think you asked which modern razors have  bottom plates similar to the Timeless. Although they aren't open comb, the Merkur Futur (pictured without it's top plate on the left) and a Megress (the Progress I believe with Mer's modifications) both have similar designs. The Futur also has four drain holes at the bottom, similar to the Timeless.

The Futur set on 3 is one of my favorites.

It's just that I could have sworn I remember seeing - or maybe having - a razor with an OC base plate like that but I'm blanking.

They made open and closed comb designs with similar baseplates. I have an Emir closed comb and a Punktal 101, which is the dual head design. Pictured below is the Punktal 101 with the open comb side.

You guys are throwing out names of razors I've never even heard of before! I guess there's a lot more out there vintage-wise than I realized.

Yeah, vintage is 'ok' - I can't think of any recent ones with the design.

Emir and Punktal always, to me, seemed to walk a fuzzy line. I don't know if there was an official relationship/partnership but when looking at some of their offerings back then (30's) one could think there was.

I have another old DC from around that era - the Daveso Garanti in near mint condition. I've assumed it's German but I can't remember if I ever nailed that down...

I thought there might be some type of relationship between the two also, but when I look at the two razors I have on end, the gap is different, which would sort of indicate a different manufacturer. If my memory is correct, Engels produced the Emir. I think that this was just a common baseplate used by German razors at the time (the Walbusch, although not open comb, has a similar baseplate).

I took the disclaimer in the original post to mean it was free in so far as it was going to be reviewed as reimbursement. Free to keep afterwards.

If you got it to try and are returning it, then I would be interested in understanding that more clearly.

Either way, I am still happy that someone that has the breadth and experience with a variety of different DE razors as darkbulb has got one in hand so quickly.

Not sure if wyze0ne, you're implying we don't value darkbulb's opinion by stating that you do. I said I don't know that I can take as impartial in so far as I am a human being.

I have a healthy sense of skepticism. Over recent months I've seen some garbage reviews in forums and on YouTube that I find questionable at best. Even vindictive accusations tossed about regarding black balled artisans or brands. Whether there kinds of things have veracity or not, it muddys the waters. When is a review of shaving gear just a review? It's getting harder to tell. For me at least.

Maybe he does get to keep it. I guess I ASSumed otherwise. In either scenario, what reason would he have to lie (not saying that he is) about the fit and finish or performance of the razor? I just don't get the mentality of thinking that if somebody gets something free of charge, they're automatically going to be dishonest with their thoughts about it. Yes, some people will, but not everybody's the same. It is hard to discern who or what you can trust when it comes to the internet so I can certainly understand being skeptical. Maybe this one, for me isn't really all that important because I know I won't be buying it. I can pretend it's 100% honest and enjoy it for what it is.

And no, I'm not implying that you don't value darkbulb's opinion, bakerbarber. Maybe my previous may have made it sound that way, but it was not intentional. My apologies.
