Restoration of the Day

I got this big girl in a "box o' razors" that arrived Thursday night. I already had the fabric micarta made, waiting for the right blade. This one had a lot of discoloration but no pitting...perfect!

George Wostenholm IXL Celebrated 6/8 hollow in fabric micarta with teak spacer. I can't wait to test shave this Big Bertha tonight!

Came out good. I like to look of the double pins in the wedge. Scale shape matches the slight smile nicely. Let us know how the shave was

Thanks! I was really trying to accentuate the smile with the scales. I love a smiling blade, so I wanted that to stand out as much as possible. Thank you for letting me know it worked!

And I couldn't wait...I had a midday shave with her. Absolutely fantastic shave. She took a very nice edge, and just made easy work of 8 hour head stubble in 2 passes and a little touchup...

I took this one apart and reshaped the scales with my new benchtop belt sander. The original shape looked good but it was very bulky and awkward to strop, hone, and maneuver. So, I unpinned them and put them to the sander. I even thinned down the spacer. Much, MUCH easier to handle now, and they are better balanced and more centered than before...

Chris, those scales are striking!
