It will be interesting to see what happens with Wolfman prices over time. Market forces are very powerful in both directions.

Recently, I've noticed Above the Tie slants and Shavemac 2-band Silvertips going for $40+ under what people paid for them. I'm guessing many potential buyers are thinking they might as well just get these items new. It's all a matter of preferences, but I think both of these items hold their own against the top in their class.

Meanwhile, I have to wonder if the guys who made Weber razors are thinking about getting back into the game if they have seen the BST prices.

Whenever I buy something, I think to myself, "is the tool that is actually going to give me the best experience?" I'm not going to hold on to my Paladins as an investment-- I'll keep them because I like them. I can't help but think of Dutch tulip bulbs, beanie babies, and other manias when seeing the prices of shaving goods.

Disagreements aside, i think the OP is on track. But I'm not sure how quickly prices will stabilize. I don't think prices will crash, but secondary market prices will at some point more closely match asking price, unless supply greatly slows down at some point. I know I will never pay secondary prices. Either I'll get one new at some point, or wait for a good deal 5 years from now. What's the rush in the meantime?

I agree with the original poster regarding prices on Wolfman. It seems that Wolfman may be an example of Shilling, that is he has offered to his friends unlimited access to razors in return for positive reviews. That is the very definition of Shilling. As with all bubbles they burst and the market will collapse. As the original poster noted time will tell. However, if you purchased a Wolfman and love it the price rise or fall means nothing so love it. If you bought it and do not like it you will be happy to just get something for selling it. Again price means nothing. The only time price matters is to us retired or scrapping by and on a budget. Thanks for reading.

Well, here's the thing. I've wanted a Wolfman since I've read the reviews, watched the videos, etc. Don't want it as an investment, just want one. To shave with, and to display and get a feeling of ahh! when I walk into my shave den.

So, what to do? I've tried getting on the waiting list twice to no avail. Even if I had gotten on, I understand it's a year wait. I understand that James is a one-man shop, and he's probably trying to be fair, but it's still frustrating. And I'm just not willing to play that game, sitting by the computer, refreshing pages, waiting with baited breath for the next newsletter. No criticism intended, but I have neither the time nor patience for that.

The conclusion is that I would need to get one on the secondary market. Getting a new one? I figure around $350 with the head, handle, and stand.

So what's it worth to me to forego the year plus wait? That's the question. It's simply what the market will bear.

I agree with andrewjs18 :

Quote:even though I'm not in the market for a Wolfman, if I were and wanted to get one ASAP without bothering with any lists, I'd pay the premium to satisfy my needs - this is how everything works in life...safety razors and the wet shaving market aren't excluded from how the market works.

But some of the premiums are outrageous. I usually abhor name calling, but I have to say that some idiotic moron with no common sense bought one from eBay today for over $500. How stupid can some people be? I ask you.

It's due to get here on Thursday.

I happen to be a very happy Wolfman open comb owner. I also have a long history of dialog with James, both before I bought my razor a year ago and since. Given the sincere, open and honest nature of my communications with him, as well as his bewilderment at the nature of this type of Internet chatter, I find it hard to believe he is planting "shills." He has stated openly that if you don't like his approach to business, buy something else. And others have stated that he could charge more than he does--but he chooses not to. Why plant a shill if you're not trying to increase sales, something he does not need?
