Rejuvenated Rubberset

I picked up this Rubberset 200-4 a couple months back and finally got around to cleaning it up, painting the letters and setting a knot. I used a Whipped Dog 24mm pure black badger. I had it set with silicone for a couple days and palm lathered it a bunch but I set it with epoxy tonight and it will get an inaugural shave tomorrow.

I decided on silver for the lettering rather than black. I do like the way it looks though...

Wow, Chris, beautiful work!  That is one of my favorite handle shapes and, as I've mentioned before, those old Rubberset and Century 4 handles are vintage treasures, in my opinion.  It's great that you were able to bring this one back to life.

First use this evening. A couple of things noticeable right from the get go...

This is the stiffest brush I own. It loads up an insane amount of product in a very short period of time. Using it the same as I do my other badger brushes results in almost twice as much product being loaded up. Not a bad thing, just something I will need to get used to.

It also has a bit of scritch to it. It's not bad, but I do hope it goes away as the brush gets used and everything breaks in a little bit.

The couple times palm lathering, a bath with dish soap, and a soak in OxiClean, and the funk went completely gone after this shave. The lather production and application was fantastic. Stout, dense, and made for a really nice evening shave. If it loses the scritch as it breaks in, it will be perfect...

That is one sexy brush!

I've used this brush now at least 5 or 6 times, and it is already breaking in very nicely. It still has a very strong backbone, but the scritchiness is almost gone from the tips altogether. It's not as soft as my gel tipped Zenith or my Stirling finest, but it is definitely softening up as it breaks in...

TONE Shaves this is actually the one I was going to set with boar. I opted for the black badger instead...
