I purchased my first slant not too long ago from RazoRock. A German 37 slant I've had some of my best shaves with it so far but i'm wondering are all slants the same? Does the degree of the slant vary from razor to razor. What razors have the greatest degree of slant to them and what effect does it have.

The concept of a slant razor is kinda how a guillotine works. Instead of the razor blade hitting flat, it hits on an angle and slices the hair across the blade instead of attempting to chop through it from the one spot on the blade. Conceptually the razor should cut better this way.

I'm not sure that a higher degree of slant really does anything all that much different, so I don't think it's necessarily a "more slant the better" type of thing.

I don't recall seeing the amount of slant being measures on any shaving forum post I've seen as I don't think it's something that people see much value in tracking.

I also purchased this razor as my first slant a short time ago. I have had nothing but excellent shaves with it.

Sorry I have no useful input.

I think you will find varying degrees of aggressiveness among slants - like any other style of razor, they aren't all alike. different angles and different blade exposure will equal different shaving experience. The ikon 102 is super smooth and comfortable yet very efficient, the ikon X3 is a tiny bit less smooth but just as efficient, IMO. I've heard mixed reviews on the Fine plastic slant with some loving it and some finding it too aggressive. If you check out any of leisure guy's blogs or posts on other forums he frequently engages in spirited discussions on the virtues of the slant with those unwashed, tinfoil hat wearing heathens who claim that the angle of the blade is irrelevant and makes no difference to the shave and anyone who claims it does is mad. These people also are adamant that the world is flat and is unquestionably at the centre of the universe.

Well, I just bought my first slant (an X3), so I hope I don't sail around the world only to discover that world is flat.

I'm going to wait for the Maggard slant to come out for my first go with one. It looks very similar to the X3.

Isn't the German 37 a clone of the Merkur 37c? Makes sense given the name and they look identical. Hmmm, maybe I just answered my own question...
