As the leaves turn and Halloween approaches my thoughts turn to spooky things. Not "creepy clowns" making the news but unexplained events.

I have one to share.

My wife and I were newly weds. It was about this time of year. I woke up in the middle of the night terrified. My heart was pounding and I was sweating.
I tried to think if I had been dreaming but could not remember having one.

As I lay there I realized I was still afraid as if there was evil about. The house was stone silent. Neither the furnace nor refrigerator were on. Just stone cold silence.

I became aware of a very low rumbling sound. I realized it was our dog. Cowering at the foot of the bad. The rumble was a barely audible growl - as if she knew she was supposed to protect us but was afraid to draw attention to herself. I patted the bed and she jumped up. She was trembling. This all took less than 20 seconds from the time I woke up.

I got out of bed to investigate. In a move so unlike her the dog stayed on the bed. I checked both doors and looked out all the windows. Nothing amiss outside though I did not turn any lights on. I still could not shake the feeling of evil. I made a second tour and checked every window was latched. I looked outside at each window but could see nothing.

I convinced myself I was being silly and went back to bed. As I crawled in my wife rolled over and said "Hold me. I'm scared. As if there is something evil about." Boy did that make the hair on my neck stand up. I held her and the dog both of whom were trembling.

The evil feeling finally abated and my wife fell asleep. I was up until daylight.

My wife had our priest come out and bless the house. Never happened again. But typing this brought all those feelings back and the hair on my neck is at attention.

How about any one else? Stories to share? Would love to hear them.

My wife and I were always very open minded. Enjoyed shows like Ghost hunters and so on. Our first house together we rented from a family friend. Built by and has been in his family all its existence. First night in we heard things but considered it as "neighbors or house settling". Over time we realized it was foot steps on the stairs and before long doors would open and close throughout the house. We accepted it and actually enjoyed it to some extent. Most of the noise came from the finished attic but occasionally it happened in the main living area but was always benign. We would have friends over and they would hear it as well. Freaked them out!

The basement was a different story. Everytime we went down to do laundry we felt unwelcomed. It would stay cold and it just felt like someone was right there standing over you and just had a bad vibe. Got to where my wife refused to go in the basement.
It was half finished and our friend we rented from wanted to finish it out so we let him.

On a side note, it's stated that whenever renovations or something happen it increases paranormal activity due to altering the environment or something like that. That's when things went down hill!

Sounds in the house started getting louder and we started seeing shadows. By now we had gotten a dog and cat. It was almost daily that they would walk side by side through the house looking up like they were following something. Sometimes they would just sit together and stare at our bedroom or a corner. A number of times our dog would suddenly get up, hackles raised, and just growel at our bedroom. Talk about unnerving!

One night while in bed we both heard a man voice say "come here!". Our dog looked up, hopped off the bed, and went into the other room. Other times you would swear there was a conversation going on in another room. We had a ceiling fan in the bed room and it was common to see them sit there and stare at that area. Now I have never been a sleep walker or anything. My started waking up at night to find me sitting up in bed and staring at the same area. She said she would start asking if I was OK and would never respond. I would just stare a moment longer then lay back and go back to sleep. I have no memories of the times this happened.

A few days later my wife is in the bedroom watching a show and I'm laying on the couch reading a book. We suddenly hear a boom like someone hit the wall. I asked if she was OK and she said she thought it was me. Not a second later our dog starts barking and we hear another "boom" followed by a stack of mail flying off the table and then something grabbing my leg. I came up off the couch like the flash and went straight to the bedroom. Told my wife what happened and showed my wife the hand print still on my leg. We didn't sleep much that night! The next night I come too with a smack from my wife to find myself in the floor fighting and yelling, with my wife screaming at me to please stop and wake up. After getting my bearings I asked what the he'll happened. She stated that she woke up to me staring at the ceiling and asked if I was OK. She said I suddenly just looked at her and started screaming and fighting. When she tried to get up she said she suddenly felt pressure on her chest and was being held down. She couldn't move! After I fell out the bed she was able to finally move and was trying to get to me but I was still fighting and screaming and fighting her. To this day I have no idea what I saw that made me react that way. She had a bruise on her chest from the force of something holding her down! We decided then it was time to move.

We tried to tell our friend but he just laughed, not believing us. He stated he never had any issues living there. A couple days later his step son came to me to let me know we were not alone. He stated he stayed there one night and slept on a cot in the finished part of the basement. Stated that he woke up to being very cold and could hear something pacing back and forth around him. He then felt something over him, and what felt like some one breathing in his face. He left that night and refused to go back in that house.

As we packed everything it decided to be playful, knocking on the front door. I opened it to find nothing there and immediately heard a knock on the side door. I walked around since there was no way anyone could leave without passing me. Nothing. Throughout the day we would continue to hear knocking on doors and walls, foot steps, etc. We would set something down, walk away, go back and find it was moved back where it originally was or to another room. My wife arrived and started to help pack when suddenly she yelled "leave me alone!" She stated something kept touching her, rubbing her shoulder, & poking her. We got everything packed, got out, and never went back. I'm told the new renters have had no issues. Thankfully we have had no issues at our current residence and we no longer watch shows like Ghost hunters etc. We had our fill.

All said we were in that hose for 2 years. Started pretty much day 1 but didn't go down hill until the end. Managed to save enough for the down-payment on our current house to get us out!

Freddie,
WOW. That trumps my story and then some.

I am a scientist by trade but there is a lot of unexplained stuff out there.

Thanks for sharing.

I was traveling, been away for a few days when I woke up in a hotel on a hot humid night. Despite the 80 degree heat with the AC running, I felt cold and scared. The sweat on my forehead wasn't from heat but fear. Had I forgot to do something in the house?

You know those times when you KNOW you forgot something and keep trying to think of it and can't. Then, it just comes to you? Now I was really scared because I had  read really bad things can happen if you do not do what I forgot to do. What should I do? Just forget my trip and head home? I was scared. Sad  The days went by. Every night I got more and more worried. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't eat (well, scratch that, I could eat Character ). But I was feeling poorly. The fear was eating AT me.

After a week I got home and RACED directly to the bathroom. There it was, the subject of my nightmares. I had FORGOT to move my Plisson HMW Brush out of the bathroom to dry and left it in that room, full of heat and humidity, IN A CLOSED CABINET!!!!  Confused

Would there be rot? Would expensive badger hair fall out? Would all the horror stories I read about not properly drying these brushes come true?  Cry

No, its all nonsense. All was OK. Smile

(No brushes were harmed in making this fictional story. Sorry it wasn't true)

It always amazes me when I meet those that are to closed minded to accept we don't know everything and some stuff just can't be explained. I've always been open minded but it's a whole other world when it actually happens to you!

I feel among friends on this forum so I will share a few details.

I live in a house that was built in 1782.  Due to the housing market crash, our house sat vacant for three years before we moved in.  Once we arrived we had issues.  We ended up calling a Church elder and blessing the home.  I would write more but I don't want my post to get into religious territory.  These things do happen, quite often I believe.

Well I'm creeped out. I've had it go pretty uneventfully so far - there was the incident in my childhood home, a 100 year old place that had lots of creaks and bangs which were all explainable. Only one thing I could never explain and it was a closet doorknob rattling incident - can't say it was expanding pipes or settling. When I finally got up the courage to investigate there was nothing there. It was a funny closet that had been part of a later add on. Neither of my brothers were behind it either. It only happened the one time. I figure its always a good idea to keep dogs or as a last resort, even cats around not just for their great companionship but because of their incredible ears and noses - if there's anything odd going on they'll let you know long before you ever sense it. Thats why I'm creeped out, if your dog is scared thats not a good sign.

I've had people I know to be stable, rational people tell me stories of paranormal experiences or of seeing objects in the sky over the years and I always take them at face value, I mean seriously, in the circumstances they have no reason to make this stuff up and they were sincere. I figure there's stuff going on that we can't quite understand or even perceive most of the time. Anybody who questions the existence of evil in this world has only to look at the evening news for unquestionable proof of its existence.
