Razorock soaps?

I find RR soaps to be mediocre. I do like SMDF and have an older tub of The Freedberg.

But as one member stated above, there are so many talented artisans at the same price point.

I don't know of many artisans that sell their soap for less than $8 for 5oz though (Some are more, but that is about average for RR). Like I said it's not the greatest soap out there, but is good for the price.

I like Saponificio Varesino myself.

I'd rather spend the few extra bucks for better quality soaps. It all boils down to how my skin feels after the shave and I found most RR soaps I tried to be very drying. I do like the Dead Sea that I have and still want to try the SMdF though.

The only RazoRock soap I've used is Tobacco, which I got on sale for about $5, I think. It does the job well, and it's no less effective than a big name or so-called artisan soap costing three to five times as much.

Frankly, I've used soaps, creams and canned lather ranging in price from $1 to $20. All but a few (Vikings Blade, Edge, Fusion) are good performers. I just never cared for the gels, and the VB cream smelled like a chemical plant.

I would agree with Jeff. I recently killed a tub of XXX that was made in 2014. I absolutely loved the scent. The performance was very good, and it lathered very easily. The only downside was the post shave feel. A bit drying. I understand Joe has now created a "Super Tallow" formula with Argan Oil, Shea Butter and Lanolin. I'd be interested to hear from those who've tried the new formula.

BTW, I did try SMdF and its a pretty good soap as well. My only problem is that it is a clone/"hommage" of SMN, which I consider one of the absolute best there is. If you want the lovely scent of SMN without paying seventy bucks, then SMdF could be for you.

Santa Maria Novella. It's the shave cream made by Farmacia Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Italy. Expensive but in my humble opinion could be the very best shaving product there is. YMMV of course!

I have not used the XXX Duro since I have not finished the regular XXX.

With the exception of the two versions of XXX the others I own all have different soap bases. I just shaved with XX today, which is a non-tallow version. I had a great shave and post shave was perfectly fine. I think the soaps can be a great value as most are in that $10 range with choices below that as well. You just have to make sure you check the ingredients to make sure you are getting the version you want.  While I have now passed the 40 mark in my collection they obviously get less use as I rotate. A few years ago they were constantly talked about and my guess is that what is getting all the attention today will be replaced by the newest best thing.

I own more Mystic Water and Stirling soaps with Mikes coming on strong but there is definitely a lot of competition for our money.

Yep, five years ago there weren't NEAR as many soaps as there are now. Same with razors and brushes. I wouldn't even know where to start as someone new coming in and would probably be overwhelmed with all of the choices.

That's why I always recommend to try the classics first, and then start to branch out to artisanal soaps. It's really difficult to recommend these days, there's just so much good stuff out there, a newbie can get overwhelmed.
