So while perusing IB and placing an order I ran across this new DE razor line Joe has out there. For 20.00 and labeled as aggressive, I couldn't not add one to my order at that price point. Should be here Friday. Anyone have one of these? Thoughts? After the weekend and a couple of shaves with it I will post my thoughts here as to aggression etc. Be interesting to see where it fits on the scale of aggressive razors out there....R41.... Fat tip... Ikon SCT... etc.... Joe says it's 8/10 on aggression in the description so I'm hoping it has plenty of bite to it. I'll reiterate.... at 20.00 bucks... that's unreal on price.

I don't have this model but Joe's line is very good considering price point. I have used about five different RazoRock soaps and they were all excellent. Let us know how you like the new razor.

First impressions

Quality: For 20.00 it's pretty damn impressive. The handle looks and feels like a 75.00 handle. The knurling is well done and the head looks very nice. Comparing this to an ikon handle side by side, this handle appears and feels better. The way Joe brings quality products like this to the community for such a tremendous value is impressive.

The shave: Joe rates this as 8/10 on his aggression scale. To me, this razor shaves smooth and efficiently. It shaves very close to a fat boy cranked to the max. I also think this shaves very comparable to a Parker hefty 97r. The difference here, is the handle here is no doubt superior and the balance is much better than the 97r. Shaving with a feather blade in this razor produced a quality bbs smooth shave. I would say it's just a step below the R41 in the aggression scale but not much below that level and its below the shave craft tech, (most razors are) yet, there is no question this is an aggressive razor and is more aggressive than medium aggressive. The shaves it has produced impress me and at 20.00, it's hard to not add one to your den. Further, it would be a great secomd or third razor for someone who has recently started wet shaving, great Christmas gift here for the price, quality, and shaves it produces for your the shaving brethren in your life.

Well done Joe, well done.

I was curious about these based on the description myself. I have been waiting for the Fatip SB to arrive at razorock which they did this past week. Based on your thoughts and review I added a mentor to the cart- you really can't beat the price and Joe is doing some amazing stuff for the shaving community IMHO.

Thanks much steeleshaves!

I picked up the EH head with handle in the kit, as I wanted the brush too.

Haven't used an EJ in a fee years, but can't wait to see the handle now.

Look forward to your thoughts @Bruce- $30 is a great price for the kit. I am not shaving currently but just received the Amici soap and splash yesterday and am very pleased with the citrus scent. Will definitely be a holiday gift selection.

I was buying the razor and brush anyways, so get a free soap to match the splash I was already buying.

Used this razor this morning for the first time. I would say the mentor is a tad more on the aggressive side but no where near an R41 or an ikon tech. The mentor is better imho because it's aggressive but much smoother than the two previous. With a silver blue blade this razor was smooth as butter. One pass could be enough. I did my usual two and I was bbs. I used some alum and found no signs of irritation on my neck or face at all. The handle is superb and quite well balanced . This razor alone is worth 29.99 or more. To get it in a kit with the protege head as well is a steal. This handle is better than the ikon version because it's the perfect size and weight. The ikon SE handle is great in its own right but too long and heavy for me. There is nothing to fear with the mentor razor. Only truly wonderful shaves!

I agree although I would say its not too much below the 13 r41 IMO but hey as they say YMMV!! I do completely agree that this razor is a smooth shaver.... I'm very pleased with this especially for the price. It's much smoother of a shave than both the R41 and the Ikon tech I agree with you there as well. Good razor, better price.

I know Joe is buried but got shipping confirmation today that it is on the way. Looking forward to cleaning this beard up here in a couple more weeks!
