Razorock Lupo

I’ve now had a few shaves with the Lupo 95 and declare it a great shaver and high on the great value list.

The blade feel is certainly there, but it was easy to shave with, without any fear of cutting myself.  It feels a little heavy to me with the haloed UFO handle, but I prefer lighter razors.  It’s results that I care about, and I got a good close shave.

Yesterday, I did a side by-side comparison with my Timeless TI95.  The results were almost identical with the slightest edge in efficiency going to the Timeless.  However, The Timeless provided a smoother more comfortable experience - as it is known for.

I like to keep my rotation simple without duplicate razors in performance.  So, I will likely sell off the Lupo.  But that is only because I already have the Timeless.

If anyone doesn’t want to spend the money for the Timeless TI95, but wants that level of performance, the Lupo95 is a great alternative.

Nothing much to report with the Feather & Lupo combo on its 2nd shave. Only that it’s a match made in razor heaven especially after the first shave with this hardware set up. Super efficient feeling yet comfortable and actually very smooth. Feathers always do well after the initial go. Not the slightest in harshness and the Lupo .95 just hums along effortlessly. Now, I didn’t say mindless as the Feather still has the teeth of a hungry lion waiting to pounce on a hapless & careless soul but, it certainly isn’t intimidating in the Lupo and I think the Lupo reigns in that harsh and ferocious characteristics that a Feather can show. Granted, I’m not slinging it around my face as I would a Mamba .70 or a British Tech but, I’m moving at a nice pace and the combination left nothing but a BBS finish in 2 plus passes plus a chin buff. Not a shred of irritation. I see real good shaves with this union.....

Wrapped up shave 3 about a little over an hour ago and nothing out of the ordinary. Again, just a smooth 2 pass shave with a slight buff on the chin & corners of the stache. I maintain a mustache so, I don’t shave that area but, if I did, this razor would be nearly perfect for that spot. Extremely low profile head that gives the Lupo SS excellent maneuverability that inspires confidence unless of course, you’re all thumbs. Then only providence or The Almighty can provide you with a comforting solution. Or, just grow a beard. 

So far the Lupo .95/Feather combination is as formidable a combination as any razor that I’ve shaved with to date that does NOT feel intimidating nor ferocious by any stretch of the imagination, just an excellent melding of efficiency & smoothness. If you look at the pic, you can see a bit of blade reveal/exposure with a decent gap between the guard & blade. Don’t pay any mind to that as that is just the angle at which the pic was taken. Looks like a Tiger but, purrs like a putty-tat. I’ll run this blade out until it gives up the ghost and unto the KAI.

I've kept the aluminum Lupo as I still really like it and use it for travel shaves now. I sold the DLC recently and really found the shaves I got with that to be top notch. I just wasn't in love with the finish and figured it would be worth trying the 0.95 so I finally ordered one to try out. I am hoping the geometry works even better with a bigger gap for me. You let the DLC go for the same reason as me Zac. I love the 95 SB. It's a keeper in this finish.

Last year after falling in love with stainless and titanium Carbon razors, that was really the only reason to sell it Dave in KY. I think the Lupo shaves my face kind enough just like a Carbon does just leaves the skin a bit different. In no ways is different bad, better or worse, it's simply just another face feel that I would rate very very high in terms of all the razors I've tried. Looking forward to trying the stainless without the DLC coating.

BTW Dave, I think it is interesting reading Gus saying he has good results with a Feather. Have you tried anything with success in the Lupo besides Wizamets? Just curious.

I've fallen into using only Wizamets as I have just under 1,000 of them but need to try some others. I've never cared for feathers but have a few. My Lupo is on loan to a local friend at the moment though.

It's interesting that the Feather blade is brought up here. And I bring this up not to be argumentative but, just to give a perspective on the pro's and con's of the blade. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the biggest backer of this particular blade not because of the slight harshness that it initially exhibits and continues to show although at a much less skin feel level once one gets to count some shaves with them. The issue with me on the Feathers is their longevity or, shall I say its lack of longevity. It's a shame that a premium blade that fetches a premium price fails, in my experience to give me "my money's worth". However, having said that, a few of those maybe 3-5 shaves (if I'm lucky to get 5 out of one) at least shaves 2 & 3 in my experiences have been flawless in their performance.

In retrospect are they worth the trouble? Sometimes yes and most times no. In essence the reason I keep the Feathers is one, because they are super sharp and two, because perhaps somehow I might come across a razor that could tame it and actually help in squeezing out of it a couple more shaves. The "chase" is the motivating factor in my case not to prove or show if it's the best or worst blade in the business. There are plenty of users who swear by them and use them exclusively whether they get one shave and bin them or can get multiple shaves out of them. And on the flip side there are those that can't use them because of their acute sharpness, initial harshness and again poor longevity. They are perhaps the most revered and equally reviled razor blades in the game. There are a slew of blades out there that are very close in sharpness yet, not equal to the Feather but, offer a smoother feel and far better longevity and consistency, certainly worth the trade-off to many, myself included.

So far I've only had very good success with the Feather in a few razors like the Timeless .68, Taiga Adjustable, Mamba .70 & RR BBS-SS. So far just 3 shaves in with the Feather & Lupo .95 and it has been a good pairing.

I apologize in advance if I come off defending or standoffish for the Feather blade. That's not my intent nor purpose. It's just to shed some light on how my shave world turns a bit and what I get out of this hobby of ours during my shave journey.

Gus, thanks for your reply. I was never a huge user of Feather blades the last 8-9 years. I remember a few times using them in Razorock razors and with no complaints but in other razors, I didn't find them to be smooth enough for my skin. I used them again a couple months ago in my BBS-1 and Carbon razors and loved the experience I had. I tend to prefer Kai and would say they are my favorite blade. I don't need to feel like there is going to be anything sharper than a Kai in my shaves. It will shave me as close as I want and they seemed to have great longevity when I was pushing them as much as I could last year and this during "testing" and using some as much as 10+ shaves.

I know Dave was a big user of the Lupo and know he uses Wizzies a lot but I didn't know if he had tried much else. I have some Wizamets and although I like them, there are a good handful of blades I like much more now versus how much I loved and used Pol Silver Super Iridiums for so many years.
