RazoRock Lupo - looking for tips on similar razors

Which handle are you using for the charcoal goods? I found the magnum and stinger too heavy for me which increased the aggressiveness, and the 4 inch handles were too long/heavy for me as well. I ended up settling on one of the helix/hammered/maze size handles. It takes a bit of time to get useto the smaller handle but you are rewarded with precision and better balance, for me anyway. Like you I love my RR Lupo but I have the DLC one. But my CG gen 1 lvl 2 with a persona med prep blade is almost as mild but a bit more efficient. I love both equally. 

You may also want to stick with it a while. It took me a full year to play with different shaving techniques to learn how to shave properly I feel like. And a lot of that depends on what razor your using. The CG I take things a bit slower. The RR I’m able to zip around my face a lot faster.

Lupo is supposed to be a WR1 0.61 head clone if I make no mistake on the gap. I have that Wolfman, but I haven't tried the Lupo to tell you more about the comparison. Hopefully there are other members that know more about it.

Save your money and stop looking now. Nothing compares to the Lupo. End of story. Anyone who recommends something is "similar" is lying.

I'm using the Twin Helix handle in bronze, which has a weight of 55 grams. The baseplate and top cap are stainless steel, for added smoothness (I think). That's about the same as the hammered handle in copper (75mm or 3 inch handle weighing about 57 grams).

The weight impacting the aggressiveness seems plausible, especially considering my lack of experience with non aluminum razors. Although I've already put the Charcoal Goods on sale (I do still have it..), your reply gets me thinking. I've given it five rounds and maybe that's not enough. With the Lupo I feel in control already, with the Charcoal Goods I do not.

I'm not familiair with the Personna Medical Prep blades, but from what I read about them they're quite sharp. That's a good thing, I need sharp (currently using Gillette Nacet). Keen on giving them a try some time.

Well indeed, that comparison would be interesting. Check this out. drewyoshida has the Wolfman WR1 .61 and the Lupo. According to him they are and shave exactly the same (with a few design tweaks that is). That's why it's so interesting to add a shim and maybe? mimic the greater gaps (which I will be doing someday this week).

Yes. I've spent a lot of money trying to prove the statement wrong. Ironically, not only is the aluminum Lupo by far the best, it's also $30. Anyone is welcome to spend their money as they see fit. If I didn't, I wouldn't feel so strongly for the aluminum Lupo... so maybe it IS worth spending all the extra money on other $200+ razors just to come to the same conclusion.
And if one comes to a different conclusion, that's great too....I just don't know how that's possible. My only complaint is that I wish the DLC was as good as the aluminum, but it's not, and I don't know why that is. I just assume the coating changes the geometry enough to make a difference. Amazing how sensitive shave geometry really is, if that's the case.
Hoping the stainless (rumors that is coming) is as good as the aluminum.

Thanks for the closeup comparison! Didn't think to do that but it definitely shows what people need to know. You can get a $300 shave for $30. Nuff said. Excellent idea on the shim, I'm going to grab a lupo again sometime and try doing that.

The only real improvement they made which is subjective is covered blade tabs. Other then that it's a straight knock off. It shaves the same. Wolfman is higher build quality, better finish. Lupo is for sure the better value overall.

To answer your questions. I think the Tatara Masamune is somewhat similar to the lupo but much smoother. It's my favorite razor I've used so far and the colonial silversmith and gamechanger .84 are also excellent and comparable to the lupo being somewhat mid aggressive.

Just updated my reponse to answer your questions by the way! I misunderstood them at first. Those are my reccomendations. Love all 3 of those razors. The Karve C Plate is also comparable I found it to be smoother but a bit less efficient then the lupo.
