razor upgrade?

Hi foundatsink , you could get yourself a nice ikon shavecraft #102 slant for less than your budget. I've been using mine very frequently and I am impressed at what a comfortable yet efficient shave it gives me with a wide variety of blades. Its my current favourite right now.

the feather as-d2 can be found on the BST occasionally near your budget. I just picked one up a week or two ago for $110.

Several good options suggested here. I'd also include a couple modern aluminum razors at your price point like the Standard or Alumigoose.

That's 20 below his budget price but aluminum is not an upgrade over brass to be honest, I have seen lots of aluminum razors selling with Caution on them " threads are gone"

I know that the aluminum used in now a day razors is some sort of aluminum that's used in the airplanes, might work for airplanes but looks like when it comes to friction screw in and screw out it gets damaged over not so long period of time.

I still think for OP budget the best razor would be the Rockwell, BTW in my opinion the plate #1 gives almost identical aggressiveness and efficiency as the ASD2

I've had the 102 for a year and a half and I've had no issues. I try to to handle all of my razors delicately to ensure longevity and I don't have a problem with aluminium. The plastic slant by Fine is another story. I've read mixed reviews of it but I just can't get past the plastic part.

If you want a real upgrade try finding yourself a Gillette Fatboy in good condition and have it replated in 24k gold or rhodium. There's a sweet shaver.

A Fatboy is always an upgrade and sometimes you have to push the budget a little. I'm only mentioning razors that I have experienced. As andrewjs18 mentioned, a Feather AS-D2 was available in the BST and would be a great razor within budget, even new you can find them as low as $138 sometimes if you watch the prices. That is a sweet razor. I'm just throwing out suggestions of what I think based on my experience are good razors. If you went the vintage replete route via razorplate.com you would have plenty of time to save up for the ultimate price (which is reasonable IMO) because it would take Chris 6 months to get to it and he doesn't charge you until its done.

I would never pay that much for a used and abused Fatboy, would spend my money on ss razor and the 6s will way outlive Fatboy considering has no moving parts, it's ss and cheaper option if the Fatboy is replated
